Trolokve on Vidova Gora | Old Stone Basins at the Highest Point of Brač

The Trolokve are located in the area of Vidova Gora, along ancient shepherd and hiking paths that traverse the highest part of Brač. They consist of a group of stone basins, known as gusterni, from which the place derives its name — "three basins." Today, they function quite simply, but in the past, they were essential for the survival of people and livestock in this completely dry and rocky part of the island.

There are no natural water sources on Vidova Gora, so these basins have served for centuries to collect rainwater. Shepherds who spent summers in the higher regions of Brač used this water to hydrate their sheep and for their own needs while staying in the rocky terrain. For this reason, the Trolokve are not only a natural curiosity but also an important part of the old daily life on Brač.

The area around the Trolokve looks completely different from coastal Brač. Instead of olive trees and beaches, low pines, dry stone walls, grass, and bare limestone terrain dominate here. When one arrives at the basins, especially early in the morning or in the evening, the entire area appears almost mountainous.

The Trolokve are most commonly accessed on foot or by bicycle from the Vidova Gora area. Several hiking and mountain biking trails pass through this part of the island, and the Trolokve are often a stop during tours of the summit and the internal ridges of Brač. Trails leading to this area come from the directions of Bol, Murvice, and Nerežišća.

Today, the basins no longer serve the practical function they once did, but the method of their construction is still clearly visible. They are surrounded by stone edges and integrated into the natural terrain to retain rainwater after heavy rainfall. During the dry summer months, some of the basins may almost completely dry up.

From the area around the Trolokve, there are wide views towards the southern side of Brač and the Hvar Channel. The combination of the old stone basins, hiking trails, and open landscape makes this place interesting for those who wish to see a different side of Brač, far from the coast and tourist spots.

The Trolokve are not a developed attraction with signs and facilities, but rather part of the ancient landscape of Vidova Gora that is best experienced while walking or cycling in the upper part of the island.
