Church of Christ the King in Selca – A Symbol of Community and Heritage

Renowned for its impressive architecture, the Church of Christ the King stands as one of the most significant religious structures on the Croatian islands. Often referred to as the 'Brač Cathedral' due to its grand scale and prominent location, this church is not officially a cathedral. It is strategically situated in the heart of Selca, where its striking stone facade and towering bell tower command attention.

The church was designed in 1919 by Austrian architect Adolf Schlauf, who was recognized for his work on notable churches and public buildings during the Austro-Hungarian era. Constructed in a monumental Neo-Romanesque style, the building process extended over several decades, hampered by wars, financial challenges, and the complexity of the design.

Built on the site of an older parish church, the current structure emerged during a period of economic prosperity in Selca, driven by stone masonry, maritime activities, and trade. The local community contributed significantly to its funding, making the church a lasting symbol of unity and development in the early 20th century.

One of the church's remarkable features is its construction predominantly from Brač stone, which has made Selca and the entire island famous. Local stonemasons worked on the project, and the exceptional craftsmanship is evident in the facade, columns, and decorative elements, showcasing the rich stone masonry tradition of the area.

The exterior of the church is characterized by:
