Santa Barbara and Kartolina Beaches (Puntinak, Sumartin) – Natural Beaches Near Sumartin

Located in the Puntinak area, Santa Barbara and Kartolina beaches are situated on the western side of Sumartin, forming a picturesque stretch of two interconnected pebble beaches. These beaches share similar characteristics, access points, and a harmonious natural environment, making them feel like a single destination.

The coastline here features a series of smaller coves, characterized by crystal-clear waters and a blend of pebbles, rocks, and concrete sections, complemented by natural shade. Ideal for swimming throughout the day, these beaches are particularly favored by families due to the shallow entry into the sea and the relatively sheltered position of the cove.

The water is calm and transparent, providing an unobstructed view of Sumartin from the shore. In addition to the natural surroundings, nearby amenities such as Beach Bar Kartolina and Restaurant Bilin allow visitors to enjoy a full day without needing to venture into the town.

Access and Parking

Santa Barbara and Kartolina share the same access and parking regulations, as they are part of the same coastal stretch.

There is no large public parking area directly adjacent to the beaches. Parking options include:

  • small private parking in the Puntinak zone
  • access roads and pull-offs along the local road
  • a limited number of spots near the beaches

The parking area is approximately 50 meters from the beach, with access to the water via well-maintained or natural paths.

During the summer months, parking capacity is limited, and spots fill up quickly, especially around midday. Therefore, it is advisable to arrive early in the morning or later in the afternoon, or to expect a short walk from a more distant parking location.

Beach Characteristics

The beaches in Puntinak, including Santa Barbara and Kartolina, have retained their natural and unobtrusive character. There are no large resorts or urban infrastructure, allowing the Mediterranean landscape, rocky terrain, and pine vegetation to dominate the area, creating a serene atmosphere.

This makes them perfect for:

  • swimming in a quieter environment,
  • families with children,
  • visitors who appreciate a nearby beach bar,
  • extended stays by the sea without urban noise.
