BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION
Povljana is located in a beautiful natural bay, in the south of the island of Pag, about 15 minutes by car from the Pag Bridge. Numerous fresh water springs have enabled intensive farming and viticulture for centuries. Today, the town is oriented towards tourism and has a permanent population of 800. The island of Pag can be reached from two directions: by ferry, the Prizna - Žigljen line, which runs day and night during the summer months, while outside the summer season it runs according to the timetable, and the other way to get to the island of Pag is across the bridge on the south side of the island. The nearest airport is Zadar, about 70 kilometers away.
CULTURE, HISTORY AND ATTRACTIONS
In the area of the Municipality of Povljana on the island of Pag, life has been going on since prehistoric times. So far, the oldest object found is a part of a stone axe from the Copper-Stone Age (Eneolithic). The Liburnians and Romans left a deep mark on the history of the island of Pag. There is numerous confirmation of this in the area of Povljana as well. The name of the town of Povljana is derived from PAULINIANA using the Latin suffix –ANA, from the Roman name Paulus. Croats founded their settlements very early on in the area of the island of Pag. Their presence in the area of Povljana is also evidenced by several medieval cemeteries and churches. In Povljana there is the ornithological reserve Veliko blato, Lake Segal with medicinal mud and numerous dry stone walls erected as natural boundaries between fences.
BEACHES
Povljana boasts kilometers of diverse beaches. You can enjoy pebble, sandy and rocky beaches. The liveliest is Dubrovnik beach, a pebble beach with plenty of shade and catering facilities. There are also beaches like Mali Dubrovnik, Obatnica, Perilo, Livade and Stara Povljana.
