BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION
Kampor is a small town located northwest of the town of Rab and stretches from the bay of Sveta Eufemija in the southeast to Kamporska draga in the northwest. Kampor has about 1,200 inhabitants. Kampor can be reached by car by going to the Stinica pier, which is located 5 kilometers from Jablanac near Senj. A ferry from Stinica takes you to the Mišnjak pier on the island of Rab, which is 15 kilometers from Kampor. Another option for arriving by car is to go to the Krk pier Valbiska after crossing the Krk Bridge. From Valbiska, a ferry travels to the Rab pier Lopar, which is also about 15 kilometers from Kampor. The nearest destination for travel by plane is Rijeka Airport near Omišalj on the island of Krk. The nearest place to arrive by train is the train station in Rijeka, which is about 120 kilometers away. In Rijeka, after arriving by train, you must take a bus from the Žabica station. However, the direct line to Kampor is not that frequent, so you usually have to take a bus to the station in the town of Rab and then continue on the local bus line to Kampor, which is about 4 kilometers away. From Rijeka, there is the possibility of arriving by catamaran. The catamaran sails from the port of Rijeka to the port in the town of Rab. The port of Rab is also the closest port intended for the arrival of ships. After arriving by catamaran, you also have to take the local bus line to Kampor.
CULTURE, HISTORY AND ATTRACTIONS
Kampor has been inhabited since ancient times, and an interesting locality nearby that preserves many remains from that time is the Kaštelina peninsula. The remains of a Liburnian settlement in the form of a hillfort have been found there, as well as a large late antique fortress from the Byzantine period from the 6th century. From the Middle Ages, Kampor's specialty is the Franciscan Monastery of St. Euphemia. The monastery houses an ethnographic museum with very interesting collections. In addition to the museum exhibits, the monastery also houses a gallery with a collection of works by Fr. Ambroz Testen. The monastery still preserves one of the oldest libraries of the Croatian written word in this part of the Adriatic. Kampor also has the Gothic Church of St. Bernardine from the 15th century, which has a very interesting painted ceiling and polyptych.
BEACHES
The most famous beach in Kampor is Mel. It is very famous for its fine sand, rich offer of accompanying facilities and beautiful sunsets. In the tourist resort of Suha Punta there are rocky beaches and coves with very clean sea water and environment. In the center of Kampor there is another interesting pebble beach located in front of the diving center. Beautiful rocky and sandy beaches are also located on the Kalifront peninsula.
OTHER CONTENT
Kampor is surrounded by many catering establishments that offer authentic island food and local specialties. The restaurants and taverns Gožinka, Eufemija, Planka, Dupin, Frkanj, Mel, Žal, Casablanca and many others are worth mentioning. Relaxation with refreshing drinks and desserts is offered by cafes and bars such as Porto, Del Mar or Municipium. Most of the nightclubs are located in the town of Rab, but it can be reached very quickly. During the summer season, many fishermen's festivals and the occasional concert are organized in Kampor, and the peak of the celebrations is in mid-September when the feast of St. Euphemia, the patron saint of the town, is celebrated. During the celebration of the holiday, you can enjoy various cultural and gastronomic events.
SPORT
In Kampor, there are a number of activities you can do: football, basketball, beach volleyball, fishing or sailing. In the center of Kampor there is a diving center where you can rent equipment and take a diving course. The surroundings of Kampor have really many hiking and biking trails that are extremely popular and provide a great activity in nature.
WHAT TO DO – EXCURSION OPPORTUNITIES
The most beautiful destination for a trip near Kampor is the Dundovo Kalifront Forest Park. The entire complex is located on the Kalifront peninsula and is a unique vegetation area under protection in the category of a special (botanical) reserve. The forest park is perhaps best known for one of the best preserved holm oak forests in the entire Mediterranean and many indigenous plant and animal species. An interesting nature trip can also be a little further away, to the Kamenjak hill. For boat trips, you should go to the town of Rab, where a wide selection of half-day and full-day cruises and sightseeing tours of the island of Rab itself and other nearby islands are offered. For visitors who want to make a longer trip, the Plitvice Lakes, Northern Velebit and Paklenica national parks are desirable destinations.
