Fažana is a tourist village located on the southwestern coast of Istria. The location of Fažana is very interesting because it faces the Brijuni National Park and is connected to it by shipping lines, and the town of Pula is in the immediate vicinity, less than 10 kilometers away. Fažana can be reached from the north by the direction from Villach towards Pula, from the east by the Zagreb-Rijeka-Pula road, while from the west it is accessible via Trieste and Koper to Pula. The nearest airport and train station are located in Pula. Fažana has frequent boat lines to Brijuni, and during the summer season it is connected to Pula and Rovinj.

CULTURE, HISTORY AND SIGHTS

Due to its location, Fažana was a very important settlement even in Roman times, and it was especially noted for the production of amphorae and other ceramics. The most significant legacy from that era are the archaeological remains of a large ceramic kiln in the area of today's Župni trg and the remains of a Roman villa in Valbandon. Fažana is well known for its preserved churches from the Middle Ages: the church of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Carmel, the church of St. Elysee, church of St. John the Apostle and the church of St. Kuzma and Damjan. All of them contain many religious monuments and works of art that are worth seeing.

BEACHES

Famous Fažana beaches are San Lorenzo beach, Children's playground (adapted for children and disabled), Badel and Campa Pineta. In the nearby village of Valbandon, Valbandonska beach, Bi Val and MUP Resort stand out. The beaches are mostly pebble and concrete and offer a rich tourist content.

OTHER CONTENTS

Although all Istrian specialties can be tried in Fažana, the gastronomic offer found its backbone in the sardine fish. Fažana has the Sardel Small Fishing Academy, where you can learn a lot about the Fažana Canal (connecting Fažana and Brijuna), which has a centuries-old tradition of fishing. In addition to the academy, Fažana has the so-called Sardel Road and Sardel Park. The events that attract with their offer are Sea on the table, Rhapsody in Blue, Sardine Festival, Ča fishermen know, Fažan dance and Whistles, fireflies and fireworks. Some of the places where you can enjoy food and drink and nightlife are Stara Konoba, Diamond, La Miracolina, ChupaCabra, Arboretum and Sunset.

SPORT

Fažana and its surroundings offer an ideal landscape for cyclists with around sixty bike paths. The promenade from Valbandon to Fažana offers a great walking path during which you can enjoy the beauty of nature and the sea. Sea activities include diving and windsurfing, and in the Brijuni National Park there are golf courses that are a nice combination of a sports complex and a wonderful natural environment.

WHAT TO DO - EXCURSION OPTIONS

Everyone who happens to be in Fažana must go on a trip to Brijuni National Park, because it only takes 15 minutes to travel by boat. Brijuni offers sightseeing of the rich flora and fauna, and various natural history collections, a visit to the viewpoint, a tour of beautiful promenades, ancient monuments, archaeological collections and a tour of the former residence of Josip Broz Tito with many interesting paintings and objects are also on offer. By visiting the Fažana Riviera, you can get to know Istrian culture and traditions in a number of smaller towns, and the village of Valbandon is home to various plant and animal species.
