Most probably built in 1420, as a Benedictine community that ran away from the Friulian monastery of St. Peter in Rosazzo (San Pietro di Rosazzo), the abbey gave name to the later settlement. Today it is preserved very little of its original appearance: in 1506 abbot Šimun built or reconstructed the church, according to the inscription above the portal; atend of the 18. century it was thoroughly renovated and 1930 significantly expanded. From attractions it holds most of Meštrović's (famous Croatian sculptor) work.
