The Franciscans arrived in Makarska near the end of the 15th century and settled out of the settlement near the church of St. Mary. Their residence was in 1518. was proclaimed a monastery, which had been destroyed in the Cyprus War and the Turks subsequently destroyed the church. Nevertheless, the Franciscans renewed the monastery buildings after the war. Through the centuries of existence of the monastery, the Franciscans have created a library that has about 5000 books, 24 inkanabula, many magazines and manuscripts. The monastery also has rich archives containing 369 Turkish documents.
