The Museum of Makarska is located in the baroque palace of Tonoli, built in the second half of the 18th century on the west side of the city's shore and harbor. The Museum of Art has also undertaken a series of archaeological excavations on the Makarska Coast (Brela, Bast, Veliko Brdo, Tučepi, Gradac) a study of the prehistoric settlement and the late antique fortress at Saint Peter in Makarska is still in the phase of its life. The ethnological collection of the Makarska City Museum contains mostly objects from the first half of the 20th century, while the smaller number of works is linked to the later period. The items are mostly made of wood, but also of fabrics and metals.
