Land for the construction of the church and residences were acquired by Italian Jesuits from the Venetian province. According to the original plans, a large church was to be built next to the present-day building, but as money ran out for construction, they decided to set up a public chapel within one wing of the building. The chapel was blessed by Vicar General Don Vinko Valle on June 20, 1895, in the presence of city and church officials and friends. The chapel was rebuilt in 1973, the choir enlarged and also the canteen of the main altar facing the faithful. A more thorough renovation began in 2000 under the leadership and with the blisters of Father Joseph Abbot. It is enriched with the painting of Blessed Alojzije Stepinac (painter Stjepan Đukić Pišta).
