BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION
Žrnovnica is a village located northeast of Split, within the city of Split. It is located at the foot of Mosor, on its southern side along the river of the same name. According to the last census, it has 3,222 inhabitants. When you head south from Split along the Adriatic Highway, after about 7 kilometers you will be in Žrnovnica, which is located on the left side of the state road.
CULTURE, HISTORY AND ATTRACTIONS
The chroniclers of the famous Republic of Poljica say that the Roman emperor Diocletian had a hunting lodge on Gračić around 243-316 AD and that gypsum was mined around Crpal as a binding material for the construction of the imperial palace in Split. The name Žrnovnica was first mentioned in 1080. In the 15th century, there was a group of villages there. The place was named after the mills (žrvanj). The church of St. Michael on Gračić is estimated to date from the 13th century, and the Žrnovnica Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built in 1725. The Stjepan Radić brass band has been operating in Žrnovnica since 1911.
BEACHES
At the mouth of the Žrnovnica River in Stobreč, there are sandy and pebble beaches with accompanying facilities, as part of the Stobreč campsite.

In Žrnovnica, you can find local specialties at the restaurants Rus, Trattoria Mill, the Izvor tavern and the Antoničin Mlin picnic area. Beach bars offer entertainment during summer nights, and the proximity of Split and Omiš offers even more entertainment and cultural opportunities.
SPORT
On the beaches of the camp in Stobreč, you can use diving services, rent pedal boats, kayak, play beach volleyball or have fun in beach bars. Fans of long walks or hiking can head to the nearby Perun hill or the peaks of Mosor.
WHAT TO DO AND EXCURSION OPPORTUNITIES
There are numerous excursion possibilities due to the favorable location. You can go sightseeing in Split, Omiš, Makarska, Salona or Trogir. From Split, take a boat to the islands or to the national parks or nature parks in the area. These are NP Krka, Plitvice Lakes and PP Biokovo. You can try canyoning or rafting on the Cetina River.
