BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION

Saplunara is a village on the island of Mljet, belonging to the municipality of the same name and the southernmost county in Croatia, Dubrovnik-Neretva County. You can reach Saplunara by car, and before that by ferry, there are ferry and boat lines from the port of Sobra (Zaglavac), only 15 km away. The nearest airport is in Dubrovnik.


HISTORY, CULTURE

The name of the settlement comes from the Latin word sabulum, which means sand. It is believed that Saint Paul the Apostle was the first to name the settlement when he landed on Mljet after a shipwreck. The settlement has been declared a protected landscape because of the endemic plants growing nearby, and is known for its fabulous sandy beaches.


BEACHES

Saplunara has two divine sandy beaches that are a paradise for nature lovers. Here you can enjoy beautiful nature and peace, and the beaches have a blue flag, which is a recognition for exceptionally clean and well-maintained beaches.


OTHER CONTENT

There are catering businesses on the beaches, and around the beaches there are beautiful promenades where you can enjoy exploring nature and listening to the singing of crickets. There are also acclaimed restaurants with a pleasant atmosphere at your disposal, to name a few: Stermasi Restaurant, MS Bar and Restaurant and Beach Bar Hippokampos.


SPORT

The underwater world of Saplunara is a paradise for divers from all over the world, many celebrities choose this location as their top destination. For nature lovers, there are many recreational activities available, including renting a boat and going on fishing trips. Only 35 km away is the Mljet National Park, which is definitely worth visiting and exploring.


SIGHTSEEING

There is really a lot to explore, see and experience on the island of Mljet, including the already mentioned most beautiful sandy beaches in Saplunara, and the Mljet National Park nearby. Also, for those who want to see more, there are organized excursions to nearby islands or cities, for example: a trip to Lastovo, a trip to Korčula, a trip to Dubrovnik, etc.
