BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION
Novalja is a tourist center and the central port of the island of Pag. It is located in the Lika-Senj County. It is located in a bay in the northwestern part of the island. Novalja has excellent transport connections to the mainland and nearby islands. It is often an indispensable port for sailors. The city of Novalja includes 10 settlements. Novalja can be reached from the south across the Pag Bridge or by ferry on the Prizna-Žigljen line, which sails day and night in summer, and 13 times a day in winter. Bus lines connect Novalja with all major cities in Croatia, and a fast catamaran line connects it with Lošinj, Rab and Rijeka, and in summer with Silba and Susak. The nearest airport is Zadar, 80 km away.
CULTURE, HISTORY AND ATTRACTIONS
Numerous archaeological finds speak of Novalja's turbulent past. The ancient Roman aqueduct from the 1st century stands out, the only one of its kind on the Adriatic. The city contains the remains of three early Christian basilicas from the 4th and 5th centuries, the remains of a floor mosaic inside the Gothic church of Our Lady of the Rosary, and the City Museum as the most interesting cultural institution. Just a few kilometers from Novalja, on the peak of Velo Tusto Čelo, there is a natural phenomenon, a megalithic imprint in stone known as the Pag Triangle.
BEACHES
Near Novalja is Zrće, a long pebble beach, the main tourist attraction of the island and beyond. Caska beach is located east of Novalja. The access to the sea is mostly sandy, and the entrance to the sea is pebbly. Planjka is a beautiful sandy beach located northwest of Novalja and has been a Blue Flag holder since 2004. Straško beach, with the autocamp of the same name, is located south of Novalja. Sveti duh is a sand-pebble beach within the private autocamp "Sveti duh".
OTHER CONTENT
The gastronomic offer of Novalja is excellent and numerous. You can taste Pag and Dalmatian specialties in the restaurants Boškinac, Starac i more, Bartol, La Paloma, Riva, Kormilo, No5, Tortilla and many others. Taverns Ivo, Antika, Leso, Stari mlin will satisfy everyone's palate. During the summer you can enjoy the Novalja Cultural Summer, during which various events such as plays, concerts, exhibitions and competitions are organized. Numerous discos and beach bars offer entertainment late into the night.
SPORT
Pag is very well organized when it comes to cycling, hiking, trekking and water activities. The entire island is marked with cycling paths, there are 4 climbing rocks, boat and jet ski rentals, sailing, fishing, sunbathing, football, volleyball, basketball - something for everyone.
