BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION
Preko is a town on the island of Ugljan, the most populated island in the Zadar archipelago. It is also the ferry port connecting the island to the city of Zadar. Zadar also has an airport. The municipality of Preko covers about two-thirds of the northwestern part of the island of Ugljan, four more inhabited islands – Galevac (Školjić), Ošljak, Rivanj and Sestrunj, and the uninhabited islets of Tri Sestrice, Mali and Veliki Paranak and Idula. The municipality consists of the inhabited settlements on the island of Ugljan: Preko, Poljana, Sutomišćica, Lukoran and Ugljan, as well as the settlements of Ošljak, Rivanj and Sestrunj. According to the 2011 census, the municipality of Preko has a population of 3,805, of which 1,286 live in the settlement of Preko itself.
CULTURE, HISTORY AND ATTRACTIONS
Inhabited since Roman times, Preko is rich in historical buildings. Preko is the central town of the island of Ugljan, which, as its name suggests, is located across from Zadar, with old parts of typical Dalmatian architecture with many country houses of Patrician families. Only 80 m away from the town lies the islet of Galevac (Školjić) with a Franciscan monastery from the 15th century. In the eastern part of the town, near the ferry port, there is the Romanesque church of St. John from the 11th century.
BEACHES
In the town of Preko on the island of Ugljan you can find a large number of beaches and coves suitable for all ages. The main beach in the town is Jaz beach, which has a blue flag for its clean sea and facilities near the beach. In addition to Jaz beach, there are smaller beaches: St. Ante Beach, Bilišće.
OTHER CONTENT
The gastronomy of the Zadar region is based on dishes made from fish, shellfish and molluscs, and as a side dish, boiled vegetables are most often served "na lešo", and everything is seasoned with local olive oil, which tastes especially good in these parts. Try it all in the taverns Roko, Petrina and Vrulja; in the restaurants Jardin, Pacifik and Vila Dalmacija and in the tavern Joso. Enjoy poetry evenings at Brižićev dvor - a traditional event. Priješka legrica - has been held for decades as the main festival in the town.
SPORT
Fans of active holidays are offered numerous sports and recreational opportunities: tennis, beach volleyball, five-a-side football, cycling, walking, hiking, diving, table tennis, pedal boating or kayaking, and more... The Swimming Marathon is a marathon that is held every year between Preko and Zadar, organized by the "Zadar" swimming club. It is the oldest marathon in Croatia, and is held on August 5th. The marathon starts in Preko, in both men's and women's categories.

The natural beauty of the Kornati National Park and the Telašćica Nature Park near the island will make your vacation unforgettable. Daily multi-day ferry lines with Zadar open up numerous other possibilities. Zadar itself is rich in cultural and historical heritage, and nearby are Nin, Šibenik, the Northern Velebit, Plitvice Lakes and Paklenica national parks, and the Velebit and Vrana Lake nature parks.
