BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION
Omiš is a historic town in the Split-Dalmatia County. It is the center of the Omiš Littoral and a very attractive tourist town. It is located in the heart of Dalmatia, at the mouth of the Cetina River. It is located 21 kilometers southeast of Split, on the state road D8. The Omiš Littoral stretches from Duće in the west to Brela in the east. You can get to Omiš via Split, from where bus lines run every 30 minutes, or from Makarska, which is near the A1 highway.
CULTURE, HISTORY AND ATTRACTIONS
In the area of today's Omiš, a settlement called Oneum or Onaeum was first mentioned, but it died out at the beginning of the 7th century. The historical center of the then Omiš was on the eastern bank of the Cetina River. The most important monuments of that time are now kept in the City Museum, and these are stone fragments with Roman inscriptions. The text concludes that they were carved during the reign of the Roman emperors Tiberius and Claudius. In the Middle Ages, the city was ruled by the Kačić princes, who were at the head of the Omiš pirates. The pirate history is illustrated by the Mirabella and Fortica fortresses. During the Venetian rule, Omiš was a military and naval settlement that developed within the walls. In the 18th century, it fell under Austrian rule. From then on, the city declined until the beginning of the 20th century, when tourism and industry strengthened. Numerous cultural monuments such as the church of St. Peter on Priko, the remains of the city walls and towers on Fošal, the medieval towers mentioned above, the parish church of St. Michael, the remains of the old cemetery and numerous smaller churches. Mostina is an underwater wall that had a secret passage adapted to the width and draft of fishing boats.
BEACHES
The central Velika plaza beach, which is rich in amenities, stretches along the city, while the others are located along the coast and in neighboring towns.

There are numerous restaurants and taverns in Omiš. To name a few: restaurants Kaštil Slanica, Pod Odrnom, La fabbrica, taverns Palacio, Porat, Knez, Milo, Zvizdan, Prince, Babilon, Kremenko, pizzeria Antula and others. Nearby is the picnic area and restaurant Radmanove mlinice. For those looking for night entertainment, there are numerous coffee bars, and Split is also very close.
SPORT
Lovers of water sports, mountaineering, free climbing, kayaking, canyoning, ziplining, hiking and trekking, and rafting can find everything in one place in Omiš.
WHAT TO DO AND EXCURSION OPPORTUNITIES
Local tourist agencies offer one-day excursions accompanied by professional guides to Split, Makarska, Solin, Trogir, Mostar and Međugorje, Biokovo Nature Park, Krka and Plitvice National Parks... Boat trips are organized to Brač, Hvar and Šolta, as well as fish picnics and night trips. In Omiš, the Dalmatian Klapa Festival, Almissa Open Air - a festival of contemporary art, and in summer the Crazy Jumps event, Omiš Swimmer's Marathon, Omiš Guitar Festival, Pirate Battle and Pirate Evenings, and numerous other events are held.
