INFORMATION AND LOCATION

Pirovac is a municipality in Šibenik-Knin County, and includes three settlements: Pirovac, Kašić and Putičanje. It is located on the Adriatic Highway, 23 kilometers northwest of Šibenik, on the coast of the Pirovac Bay. The town of Pirovac itself has a population of 1,704, and the entire municipality has a population of 1,930. Pirovac is, along with Primošten, Vodice and Murter, the most important tourist center of the Šibenik Riviera. Tourism is the main economic activity, and the population also engages in fishing and agriculture. The nearest airport is in Zadar, and Resnik in Split is not far away. It can be reached from Zagreb and Rijeka via the A1 highway.

CULTURE, HISTORY AND ATTRACTIONS

It was given its name Pirovac in 1930. In addition to its rich history, there is also an interesting legend that says that during a period in history, Pirovac was called the "Evil Village" because the locals poured olive oil on it in defense of the Turkish invaders. The town is adorned with several valuable cultural and historical monuments. Important monuments are: the Templar fortress in Vrana, the old ramparts built in 1505 and the church of St. George built in 1506, built by Petar Draganić, the remains of the old Franciscan monastery from the 16th century on the island of St. Stephen, the Draganić family castle, the church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, the village gate, the cemetery and the Gothic church of St. George, the Old Town, the Pyramid Monument, the Kašić Fortress with a lookout and many others.

BEACHES

Pirovac is known for its beautiful beaches and coves. These include Lolić Beach, the Miran Hotel Beach, Starine, Makirina Bay, Porat Bay, and in front of Pirovac is the small island of Sustipanac, or the Island of Love, with its pine shade and rocks for sunbathing.

OTHER CONTENT

The emphasis on the gastronomic offer is based on the tradition of preparing local specialties and preserving local recipes in the restaurants: Stara Riva, Štikadenta, Morićevi Dvori, Marin, Adriana and Argola. Then in the taverns Vesela, Ardura and Nono and in the pizzerias Ban, Palma and Spalladium. The rich tourist offer is also based on numerous cultural and entertainment events and sports activities.

SPORT

Pirovac is a desirable place for an active vacation. It offers cycling trails, jogging and hiking trails, boat and speedboat rentals, jet skis, pedal boats, surfing, tennis, beach volleyball, basketball, bocce and fitness.

WHAT TO DO AND EXCURSION OPPORTUNITIES

There are many excursion options. From renting a helicopter to fly over Pirovac, Šibenik or the surrounding area, boat tours to the Kornati and Krka National Parks, fish picnics, one-day bus trips to Split, Trogir, Dubrovnik or Međugorje, night cruises through the Bay of Pirovac, fishing on Lake Vrana.
