BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION
Vrlika is a small town in the Cetina region, or Dalmatian hinterland. Although less than an hour's drive separates the Vrlika region from the large coastal cities of Dalmatia (Split, Trogir, Makarska, Šibenik, Zadar), the untouched nature of this area and its beauty make it distant, almost timeless and certainly a special section of the Mediterranean routes. It is located in the embrace of two large stone guardians, the Dinara and Svilaja mountains. It has a sub-Mediterranean climate that mixes with a continental mountain climate, which creates a pleasant place to stay, especially for people who have difficulty with respiratory diseases.
WHAT TO VISIT
ČESMA is a picturesque park from the 19th century where one of the numerous tributaries of the Cetina River springs. As a place of gathering and socializing, Česma played an important role in the lives of the people of Vrličić and inspired Milan Begović, whose libretto was used to compose the most popular Croatian opera ''Ero s onoga svijeta''. There is also a monument to Begović. Česma is the most original stage where ''Ero'' is performed in the summer.
FORTRESS PROZOR was built at the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries on the territory of the Cetina prince Ivan Nelipić. It was first mentioned in 1406, when Vrlika and its surroundings were ruled by the Bosnian nobleman and prince of Split, Hrvoje Vukčić Hrvatinić. In terms of its preservation, it is one of the most significant medieval fortresses in the interior of Dalmatia. The fortress offers an impressive view of the Vrlika field, Peručko lake, and the town itself and its surroundings.
CHURCH OF ST. SAVIOR is the oldest preserved pre-Romanesque building in Croatia. It was built in the 9th century by the Cetina prefect Gastika in memory of his mother Nemira and her sons. There is a large necropolis next to it. During the excavation of the church, several architectural fragments and pieces of stone furniture decorated with Croatian braid were found.
THE SOURCES OF THE CETINA RIVER are located a few kilometers from the town of Vrlika. Be sure to visit at least one of the three hydrological monuments of amazing beauty: Vukovića vrilo, Batića vrilo and Glavaš vrilo.
LAKE PERUČKO JEZERO is located just a few kilometers from the city center. It is suitable for swimming, camping and fishing. On the main beach "Tabela" there is a pontoon that makes it easier for swimmers to enter the lake. The Balečki Bridge, the Pločasti Bridge, the Crkvina in Koljani and the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary are definitely worth visiting.
WHAT TO DO
The strongest asset of Vrlika is outdoor activities. There are 8 thematic trails with a total length of 131 kilometers, of which 4 are hiking, 3 are cycling and 1 is walking, so for nature lovers we have an offer throughout the year. On Peručko Lake we have a rowing camp ''Garjak'' where, in addition to rowing, canoeing and kayaking are used for riding on the lake. Next to the Prozor fortress there is a sports climbing area with 15 routes of varying difficulty. Hunting and fishing are certainly an indispensable part of the offer, given that the large hunting area is home to an abundance of large game, while fishing enthusiasts can enjoy fishing on Peručko Lake and the Cetina River. Horseback riding is also an outdoor activity that tourists can experience in Vrlika.
