BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION

Osijek, also known as the "city on the Drava", is a city in eastern Croatia, located about 20 kilometers from the confluence of the Danube and Drava rivers. It has a population of about 100,000, making it the fourth largest city in Croatia, while it is the largest and most developed in the Croatian region of Slavonia. Osijek is located approximately halfway between the capitals of Croatia, Hungary, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is about 100 km from the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina, about 35 km from Serbia, and about 50 km from the Hungarian border. Osijek also has an airport, which is located about 20 kilometers southeast of the city.

CULTURE, HISTORY AND ATTRACTIONS

Osijek exudes diversity, valuable historical locations, numerous gastronomic offers and beautiful parks. The landmark that many tourists want to see first is Tvrđa, the historical core of the city. Baroque buildings stand out on the central square in Tvrđa, the Holy Trinity Square. Also widely known is the beautiful Osijek promenade along the Drava River, the so-called Promenade, while the upper town would imply an urban center that has numerous cultural events. Osijek has its own theater, and for cinema lovers there are two cinema halls in the immediate vicinity of the main Ante Starčević Square, while one is in the famous shopping center located at the western entrance to the city. A stay in Osijek can also be enriched by visiting one of the galleries and museums, the city has two museums of national importance: the Archaeological Museum in Tvrđa and the Museum of Slavonia. The city also often hosts numerous events, from cultural, musical to sports.

BEACHES (SKI RESORTS, EXCURSION AREAS, ON THE LAND)

If you visit Osijek in the summer, Copacabana, better known as "Kopika", is considered the most visited swimming spot in the city, located on the left bank of the Drava River. In addition to four outdoor pools, you can also refresh yourself by swimming in the Drava. On the left bank of the Drava River, we also have a zoo, which is also the largest in Croatia. Apart from being separated from the city and noise, it is full of fresh air and greenery, and is home to more than 100 species of animals. Only 11 km from the city is the famous Kopački rit Nature Park, which is a wetland home to thousands of biological species.

OTHER CONTENT

In Osijek we have two shopping centers, Mall and Portanova, both located at the western entrance to the city. The center of Osijek's nightlife would be the aforementioned baroque Tvrđa, which contains a number of cafes, pubs, clubs, we will mention the Old Bridge pub, and the three-story club Tufna. The most popular places in the city for daytime enjoyment in drinking, coffee, juices and other alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are located along the also mentioned Promenade promenade, although the cafes in the Upper Town along the main Ante Starčević square or the cafes along Ljudevit Gaj Square also in the Upper Town are no less visited. As Osijek is the city of the first Croatian beer, today known as "Osječko pivo", it contains numerous pubs, of which we will mention the Merlon pub in Tvrđa, and the Runda pub in the Upper Town. The gastronomic offer of the city is also luxurious, Rustika is one of the most visited restaurants located in the Upper Town, while El Paso is equally attractive to tourists, located along the Promenade itself.

SPORT

Osijek truly offers a range of recreational opportunities, swimming enthusiasts can visit swimming pools, the city also has a shooting range and an equestrian club, while the Portanova shopping center has a bowling alley and go-karting. Fitness centers, as well as various sports fields and bicycle paths, can be found everywhere.

WHAT TO DO AND EXCURSION / SIGHTSEEING OPPORTUNITIES

If you would like an organized excursion with licensed guides, you can visit one of the tourist agencies where there are numerous organized sightseeing tours. Some excursions include, for example, a tour of Kopački rit, Tikveš Castle, and a boat ride on the Drava River.
