Mala Noćna Regata | Unique Night Sailing Spectacle in Postira

The Mala Noćna Regata is one of the most recognizable summer events in Postira and one of the few regattas on the Adriatic that takes place at night. The event is traditionally organized in August in the Postira harbor and is notable for utilizing a natural phenomenon known as gažul – a night wind that descends from Vidova Gora towards Postira during summer evenings.

The roots of night sailing in Postira date back over a century, to a time when local boats would go out to sea for leisure and competition after a day of work. The current Mala Noćna Regata was established in the mid-2000s when local enthusiasts revived this tradition and transformed it into an event that now attracts sailors, musicians, and numerous visitors.

What makes this event special is not just the competition but the entire atmosphere in the harbor. The waterfront becomes a viewing area, illuminated sailboats sail just a few meters from the audience, and the regatta is traditionally accompanied by the strains of Mozart's composition Mala Noćna Muzika, after which the event is named.

Unlike classic regattas that are observed from a distance, here the entire competition takes place right in front of the waterfront. Visitors can closely observe the maneuvers of the sailboats as they utilize the changing night wind within the Postira harbor. Due to the small racing area and specific sailing conditions, the Mala Noćna Regata is considered one of the more technically interesting sailing events on the Croatian coast.

Over the years, many well-known Croatian sailors, Olympians, and athletes have participated in the regatta, and the event has grown beyond local boundaries to become a hallmark of summer events in Postira. After the regatta, there is traditionally an announcement of the winners followed by an evening music program in the town.

The Mala Noćna Regata usually takes place in early or mid-August as part of the Postira Summer program. The exact date changes from year to year depending on the event calendar and weather conditions.
