International Summer Music School in Pučišća | Music Workshops and Concerts Throughout the Summer

The International Summer Music School in Pučišća has been held every summer since 1995 and is now one of the most recognized music events in Brač. During July and August, this small village on the northern side of the island temporarily becomes a gathering place for young musicians, teachers, and participants from Croatia and abroad.

The main part of the program takes place in Pučišća, while some jazz workshops and concerts are also organized in Bol. The program is divided into several separate workshops based on instruments and music genres — classical music, jazz, pop, rock, and fusion. Each course generally lasts 9 or 10 days, and participants have individual lessons with teachers, group work, and the opportunity for daily practice.

The school is not only intended for professional musicians and students of music academies. Younger participants, amateurs, and individuals who come primarily for intensive work during the summer without the traditional school rhythm also take part in the workshops. The number of places per workshop is generally limited, allowing for a focused atmosphere on individual work and smaller groups.

One of the most visible aspects of the school for those staying in Pučišća during the summer is the evening concerts. Throughout the summer, performances by teachers and participants are held almost every week at various locations in the village — on the waterfront, St. Jerome's Square, in Porat, or smaller open spaces by the sea. The program includes classical concerts, jazz evenings, chamber performances, and final concerts of the workshops. As a result, it is common to encounter a rehearsal or concert during a regular evening stroll through the village.

Over the years, thousands of participants from Europe, the USA, and other countries have attended the school, and among the teachers have been musicians and lecturers from academies in Croatia and abroad. The organizers particularly emphasize the individual approach, the opportunity to work with mentors, and a more relaxed atmosphere compared to traditional music seminars in large cities.

The workshops are mainly held in the school premises and cultural facilities in the center of Pučišća, allowing the entire program to naturally fit into the summer rhythm of the village. During July and August, many apartments and private accommodations in Pučišća are utilized by school participants who stay in Brač for about ten days or longer.
