International Summer Music School in Pučišća | Music Workshops and Concerts Throughout the Summer

The International Summer Music School in Pučišća has been held every summer since 1995 and is now one of the most recognised musical events on Brač. During July and August, this small village on the northern side of the island temporarily becomes a gathering place for young musicians, teachers, and participants from Croatia and abroad.

The main programme takes place in Pučišća, although some jazz workshops and concerts are also organised in Bol. The programme is divided into several distinct workshops based on instruments and musical genres — classical music, jazz, pop, rock, and fusion. Each course typically lasts 9 or 10 days, during which participants have individual lessons with teachers, group work, and the opportunity to practise daily.

The school is not exclusively for professional musicians and students from conservatoires. Younger participants, amateurs, and those attending primarily for intensive summer work without the usual school rhythm also take part in the workshops. The number of places in each workshop is generally limited, ensuring that the atmosphere remains focused on individual work and smaller groups.

One of the most visible aspects of the school for those spending the summer in Pučišća is the evening concerts. Throughout the summer, performances by teachers and participants are held almost every week at various locations in the village — on the waterfront, in St. Jerome's Square, in Porat, or in smaller open spaces by the sea. The programme includes classical concerts, jazz evenings, chamber performances, and final concerts of the workshops. As a result, it is common to encounter a rehearsal or concert during a casual evening stroll through the village.

Over the years, thousands of participants from Europe, the USA, and other countries have attended the school, with musicians and lecturers from conservatoires in Croatia and abroad among the faculty. The organisers particularly emphasise the individual approach, the opportunity to work with mentors, and a more relaxed atmosphere compared to traditional music seminars in larger cities.

Workshops are mainly held in the school premises and cultural venues in the centre of Pučišća, allowing the entire programme to naturally fit into the summer rhythm of the village. During July and August, many apartments and private accommodations in Pučišća are used by school participants who stay on Brač for around ten days or longer.
