Balun Beach, Vrboska – Large Naturist Rocky Beach with Flat Stone Slabs and View of Zečevo

Balun Beach is located on the Glavica peninsula, east of Vrboska, and is one of the most distinctive natural naturist locations in this part of Hvar Island. Unlike typical pebbly coves, Balun consists of large, almost flat stone slabs that gently slope towards the sea, making the entire coastline open, spacious, and very suitable for sunbathing.

Balun is known as a naturist beach and attracts visitors seeking tranquility, ample space, clean water, and a natural environment without typical tourist infrastructure. From the open rocks, there is a nice view towards the islet Zečevo and the Hvar Channel.

What is the Coast Like?

The main feature of Balun is its large flat stone slabs, which in some places resemble natural terraces.

This means that visitors do not lie on pebbles or sand, but directly on smooth rocks. The surfaces are wide enough to comfortably accommodate a towel, and the slope towards the sea is generally gentle.

The coastline appears much more open and spacious than smaller coves like Maslinica or the Pakleni Islands.

Entering the Sea and the Seabed

Access to the sea is directly over the rocks and stone slabs.

In some areas, the transition is gentle and easy, while in others, the terrain is somewhat uneven. The seabed is predominantly rocky and stony, without the sandy shallows found at some other beaches around Vrboska.

The water deepens relatively quickly in certain parts, making Balun more suitable for confident swimmers than for small children.

Water shoes are recommended due to the rocks, stones, and potential sea urchins.

Naturist Character

Balun is recognized as a naturist beach.

Naturism here is not just an occasional occurrence but part of a long-standing tradition in this area of the Glavica peninsula. The spacious rocks, distance from main bathing areas, and natural environment have made Balun popular among naturists.

Swimmers in swimsuits may also appear on the beach, but it should be noted that naturism is common and Balun is primarily known as a naturist location.

View of the Islet Zečevo

From Balun, there is a very nice view of the islet Zečevo.

This is one of the reasons why this beach feels different from more enclosed coves. You have open sea, Zečevo, and the northern coast of Hvar in front of you, giving the entire location a sense of greater space and complete distance from settlements.

It is particularly beautiful in calm weather when the sea is flat and very clear.

Snorkeling

The rocky coast and stony seabed make Balun a good spot for snorkeling.

Underwater, there are flat rocks, rocky crevices, and deeper areas, making the underwater scenery more interesting than on a monotonous sandy bottom.

The water is very clear, especially when there is no strong wind.

Shade

There is limited natural shade on the stone slabs themselves.

A pine forest is located behind the coast, so some shade can be found further from the sea, but if you want to stay directly on the rocks by the water, expect plenty of sun.

For a full day stay, it is advisable to bring your own sun protection and enough water.

How to Get to Balun?

Balun is located further east of Soline, on the outer part of the Glavica peninsula.

It is not accessible directly by car. The most practical option is to leave your vehicle in the Soline area or elsewhere on the peninsula where parking is allowed, and then continue on foot along the coastal and forest path.

The final part of the access leads through natural terrain and is not suitable for strollers or individuals with reduced mobility.

Balun can also be visited by boat, but there is no officially designated anchorage.

Parking

There is no designated parking near Balun Beach.

The most practical option is to use parking in the Soline area and then walk towards the eastern part of Glavica.

Do not expect parking immediately by the rocks or a conventional car approach to the beach.

Are There Facilities?

There are no beach bars, restaurants, toilets, showers, or organized rentals of sunbeds and umbrellas at Balun.

This is a completely natural naturist beach, so everything needed for your stay should be brought with you.

The nearest significant facilities are located in Soline and Vrboska.

Who is Balun Best Suited For?

Balun is an excellent choice for naturists and guests seeking ample space, a rocky coastline, and very clean water without crowds and infrastructure.

It is less suitable for small children, non-swimmers, and those looking for pebbles, shallow water, or easy car access.

If you enjoy sunbathing on flat stone slabs, an open view towards Zečevo, and a natural naturist atmosphere, Balun is one of the most distinctive beaches around Vrboska.
