Zečevo Island and Beaches near Vrboska – A Naturist Island with Pine Forest and Turquoise Sea

Zečevo is a small uninhabited island located northeast of Vrboska, approximately one kilometer away in a straight line. There are no roads, bridges, or pedestrian access to the island – it can only be reached by sea, via private boat or taxi boat from Vrboska and Jelsa.

The island has been known for decades as a naturist destination, but today it is not exclusively nudist. On the shore, naturists, swimmers in swimsuits, families, couples, and sailors coexist. The main attractions of Zečevo are its dense pine forest, exceptionally clear sea, natural rocks, and several small swimming spots scattered along the coast.

This is not an island with one large central beach. Zečevo consists of a series of natural rocky and stony bathing areas, with one more developed zone around Lantina Beach Bar.

What is the coastline like on Zečevo?

The majority of Zečevo's coastline consists of natural rocks, flat stone slabs, and rocky transitions to the sea.

In some places, there are small sections with finer gravel, but Zečevo is not a typical pebble island. The rocks and natural stone slabs serve as the main surface for sunbathing.

In the more developed area near Lantina Beach Bar, there are prepared surfaces for lounging, sunbeds, and cabanas, making this part more practical for a full day stay.

What is the seabed like?

The seabed around Zečevo is primarily a combination of rocks, stones, and smaller sandy or lighter areas.

In the coves, entry is easier, while in the more open parts, one enters the sea directly from the rocks.

The water is exceptionally clear and quickly transitions from turquoise to dark blue, especially along the edges of the island where the depth increases.

Due to the rocks and sea urchins, water shoes are very useful.

Snorkeling and Underwater Exploration

Zečevo is an excellent location for snorkeling.

The rocky edges, stone crevices, fish, and transitions between lighter and darker seabeds create a much more interesting underwater landscape than a uniform sandy beach.

The water is particularly clear on calm days, making the seabed often visible from the surface.

Pine Forest and Natural Shade

Almost the entire island is covered with pines and Mediterranean vegetation.

The pine forest reaches almost to the sea in several places, making Zečevo one of the more pleasant spots for a full day stay during the hottest part of summer.

There is no shade on the open stone slabs, but moving a few meters away from the sea will often lead to shaded areas under the pines.

The more developed area around the beach bar also has shaded zones and cabanas.

Nudist Tradition of Zečevo

Zečevo has a long naturist tradition and has been noted for decades as one of the more recognized nudist spots in this part of Hvar.

This is not a closed naturist camp, nor is there an entrance or controlled zone. Naturism is simply traditionally accepted in various parts of the island.

Today, both naturists and guests in swimsuits swim at Zečevo, so it is not necessary to be a nudist to visit.

However, if you are particularly uncomfortable with a nudist environment, it is good to know that you may encounter it here, especially in the more remote rocky parts of the coast.

Lantina Beach – The More Developed Part of Zečevo

In one of the most beautiful coves lies Lantina Beach Bar & Restaurant, which has become the main gathering place on Zečevo in recent years.

Along the sea, there are arranged cabanas, sunbeds, and seating areas in the shade of pines, offering food and drinks.

The confirmed menu includes fresh fish such as sea bass, shellfish, shrimp, and salads, along with wine and other beverages.

This part of Zečevo has a more pronounced beach club character, with music and a developed space, making it a different experience compared to the more remote natural nudist rocks.

Those seeking complete silence and seclusion will fare better if they continue further along the island's coast.

How to Get to Zečevo?

Zečevo cannot be reached by car or on foot.

The simplest way is by taxi boat from Vrboska or Jelsa. The ride takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes, depending on the departure point and vessel.

During the summer season, there are regular and arranged taxi transfers, but schedules and prices are not fixed, so they should be checked on the day of arrival.

If you have your own boat, dinghy, or rented vessel, reaching Zečevo is also very easy.

Arriving by Private Boat

Zečevo is very popular among sailors.

Smaller vessels often anchor in the more sheltered coves on the southern and western sides of the island. The water is deep enough for approach, but care should be taken regarding swimmers and the seabed configuration.

The most well-known cove near Lantina is well protected from most winds, but it is not completely safe during strong southern winds.

In case of strong southern winds, it is better to choose a more sheltered cove or postpone your arrival.

Is There Parking?

There are no cars on Zečevo, so there is no parking.

If you arrive by taxi boat from Vrboska or Jelsa, you should leave your car in a public parking area at the departure point.

Private marina, hotel, or apartment parking should not be used as public parking unless explicitly permitted.

Are There Toilets and Showers?

There is no public beach infrastructure on the natural parts of Zečevo.

In the area around Lantina Beach Bar, there are facilities for the guests of the establishment, but the entire island should not be viewed as a developed beach with public toilets, showers, and changing rooms.

If planning to stay further away from the beach bar, it is advisable to bring enough water and everything needed for a day at sea.

Is Zečevo Suitable for Children?

The more developed area near Lantina can be pleasant for families, especially due to the calmer cove and easier access to the sea.

The rest of the island is mostly rocky and less practical for small children.

It is also important to consider sea urchins, uneven rocks, and the fact that you are on an island, with return transport by boat.

For families seeking maximum convenience, beaches with showers, easy access, and car proximity in Soline or other developed beaches around Vrboska may be simpler options.

How Much Time to Spend on Zečevo?

Zečevo is best suited for a half-day or full-day trip.

If you are coming just for swimming, a few hours is sufficient. If you wish to have lunch at Lantina, explore different parts of the island, swim, and spend part of the day in the shade of the pines, it is worth staying almost the entire day.

Before departing by taxi boat, it is advisable to arrange a return time immediately.

Who is Zečevo Best For?

Zečevo particularly suits guests who want to escape from the main island for a few hours.

The natural parts are excellent for naturists, couples, and guests seeking tranquility, while the area around Lantina caters to those who want sunbeds, food, drinks, and a livelier atmosphere.

The greatest advantage of Zečevo is that on such a small island, both experiences can be found – a developed beach bar and completely natural rocks among the pines.
