Gelateria Riva in Komiža

Gelateria Riva is located on the waterfront in Komiža and is one of the easiest places to stop for ice cream while walking through the center. There is no need to search for it specifically – you pass by it while walking along the harbor towards the restaurants and the old part of Komiža. It is busiest in the evening when the waterfront fills with strollers, and almost everyone wants something cold to take with them.

The main reason to visit is the large selection of ice cream. The display features classic dairy flavors, chocolate combinations, and fruity sorbets, providing enough options for those who enjoy simple vanilla or chocolate as well as those who seek something different each time.

First, Look at the Entire Display

With such a wide selection, it is easy to immediately choose a familiar flavor, but it is worth taking a moment to look at the entire display before ordering. The offerings are not always the same, and among the seasonal and less common flavors, you may find something more interesting.

Pistachio is a good choice for those who enjoy richer, nutty flavors, while lemon and other fruity sorbets are better after a hot day or a hearty dinner. If you opt for two scoops, a practical combination of one creamy and one fruity flavor is recommended – this way, the ice cream is not too sweet or heavy.

For children, the selection is broad enough that finding a familiar flavor is usually not a problem, and the colorful display often makes it difficult to decide on just one.

Not Just Ice Cream

Riva is also a pastry shop, so in addition to ice cream, other desserts may be available. Special attention should be paid to doughnuts, which have been part of the offering for years and attract some visitors during the day, not just in the evening for ice cream.

If you want a doughnut, it is better to come earlier rather than later in the day. Such items can sell out during the season, while ice cream is the main offering that is constantly replenished.

Along with sweets, coffee is also available, making Riva a good spot for a short break during a morning or afternoon walk in Komiža.

The Best Time for Ice Cream

Early evening is the most pleasant time. The sun is no longer strong, the whole of Komiža moves to the waterfront, and ice cream can be enjoyed while walking along the harbor without the need to find a table.

In July and August, a line often forms right after dinner. It usually moves relatively quickly as most people take their ice cream to go, but those who want to browse the flavors peacefully will have a better experience if they arrive a bit earlier, before the main evening stroll.

During the day, the advantage is that Gelateria Riva is located in the very center. After returning from the beach or a boat trip, there is no need for any additional detours – it is enough to walk along the waterfront.

A Good Choice After Dinner

The location is particularly convenient as many restaurants in Komiža are nearby. After dining at Fabrika, Koluni, Dal Mare, Charlie, or another restaurant on the waterfront, it takes just a few minutes to reach the ice cream shop.

Therefore, it does not make much sense to plan a special visit. Riva works best as part of an evening in Komiža: dinner, a walk along the harbor, ice cream, and then continuing towards the old part of the town or Gusarica.

If you are staying in the center, it is easy to return multiple times during your holiday, which is useful as the flavor offerings change and there is no need to try everything at once.

To Take Away or Enjoy Immediately

Most visitors take their ice cream in a cone or cup and continue their walk. This is probably the best option in Komiža – the waterfront is short, there is enough space to stop by the sea, and it is more pleasant to walk in the evening than to sit in one place.

For small children, a cup is more practical than a cone, especially on the hottest days when the ice cream melts quickly. If multiple flavors are chosen, it is also easier to eat from a cup without racing against the sun.

Arrival and Parking

Gelateria Riva is located in the very center of Komiža and is best reached on foot. It is only a few minutes away from any part of the waterfront.

There is little point in bringing a car close by. Guests arriving from other parts of Vis find it more practical to park in one of the public parking lots and continue on foot to the center. After that, everything – the harbor, restaurants, shops, and Gelateria Riva – is within a short distance.

Who Will Enjoy It Most

Riva is primarily a place for those who want a large selection of ice cream in the most convenient location in Komiža. It should not be compared to Cukar, which is interesting for its signature cakes and island ingredients. These are two different reasons to go for something sweet.

Cukar is a destination for cake. Gelateria Riva is more often visited spontaneously – after the beach, during a walk, or after dinner.

Because of this, it easily becomes one of the places you pass by multiple times during your stay in Komiža. One day a doughnut and coffee, another day a fruity sorbet, and in the evening, two scoops of ice cream for a walk along the harbor.
