Storo Pošta Beach in Komiža
Storo Pošta is not a typical beach with a wide shore visible from afar. It is a series of small pebble spots and flatter rocks located in a secluded part of the coast behind Templuža, close enough to Komiža for a short visit, yet remote enough that casual bathers rarely end up there.
Visitors come to Storo Pošta seeking peace, swimming without crowds, and a place to spend most of the day between the sea and warm rocks. One should not expect the comfort of a developed beach or much space for equipment. Depending on the coastal conditions, there are a few smaller pebble indentations, while the majority of the area consists of rocks suitable for lying down and sunbathing.
This area is commonly used as a naturist bathing spot. Swimwear is not prohibited, but it is important to note that people primarily come here for privacy and a more relaxed naturist experience.
Location
Storo Pošta is located on the coast that continues beyond Kamenica, Novo Pošta beach, and Templuža. After Templuža, the shore does not open into a larger beach but divides into rocks and several smaller areas covered with pebbles. This part is referred to as Storo Pošta.
The name on the map may give the impression of a specific beach, but on-site, it is more important to find a suitable spot for safe entry into the sea and lounging. Some pebble areas are very small and only accommodate a few people.
Further along the coast is the even smaller Balunčić, but it is also not accessible via a developed land path.
Getting There from Komiža is Not a Simple Walk
From the center of Komiža, one first heads towards Kamenice and then towards the Novo Pošta beach area. This part can still be reached via a land path, but the continuation towards Templuža and Storo Pošta leads along the coast.
In some places, one must pass over rocks and sometimes through shallow water. The ease of passage depends on the waves, sea level, and how wet the stones are. On a completely calm day, it can be navigated without major issues if one has a sure step, but after a southern wind or when waves appear in the bay, this approach is not advisable.
It is not recommended to try to shorten the route by going over the slope above the coast. The terrain is very steep, rocky, and sometimes overgrown, with no safe or developed descent to the sea. It is safest to stick to the known path towards Novo Pošta and continue only where the coastal passage is clearly navigable.
From the center of Komiža, one should allow at least half an hour, often longer, as the last part is not traversed at the same speed as the city promenade. Sturdy sandals or lightweight sports shoes are necessary for the journey. Flip-flops can easily slip on wet rocks and are better carried in a bag.
Arriving by Boat is Much Simpler
The most practical way to arrive is by small boat, kayak, or taxi boat from Komiža. The journey is short, but there is no dock or designated landing area at Storo Pošta. Disembarkation is done at a small pebble area or over rocks, depending on where the sea is calmest.
When arranging transport, it is important to immediately determine the return time. There is no regular boat line at the location, and it is not advisable to rely on transport being available at all times.
Arriving by kayak or stand-up paddleboard is only sensible when the sea is stable and no strong winds are expected. The coast offers little shelter, and returning to Komiža can be significantly more challenging if waves rise during the day.
Best Entry Points into the Sea
For entry, it is best to choose one of the smaller pebble spots. There, entry over the pebbles is easier than from the rocks, although the bottom is not completely flat. Larger stone blocks may appear, so water shoes are advisable.
From the rocks, one should enter only where the depth is clearly visible and where there is a safe way back from the sea. Not all rocks are suitable for exiting, especially when wet or covered with slippery marine growth.
The water is very clear in calm conditions, and the rocky edges are good for snorkeling. Since there is no designated swimming area, it is advisable not to stray too far from the shore or swim towards routes used by smaller boats.
Most of the Day is Spent in the Sun
Storo Pošta is particularly suitable for those who enjoy lying on flat, sun-warmed rocks. There is little natural shade, and the limited shade along the slope changes position and is not reliable for all-day protection.
Setting up an umbrella on rocky ground is not easy, so a hat, lightweight clothing, and good sun protection are more practical than large beach equipment. There is not much space on the small pebble areas, making it best to bring only what can be easily carried.
Morning visits are more pleasant due to lower temperatures and calmer seas. Those arriving on foot should allow enough time for the return before dark, as the rocks and coastal paths are not illuminated.
What to Bring
There are no tourist facilities at the location. There are no beach bars, water, food, showers, restrooms, or equipment rentals.
It is necessary to bring enough water for the entire stay, some food, water shoes, and as few unnecessary items as possible. It is not possible to quickly go to the nearest facilities and return as one can at city beaches.
Mobile signal may depend on the exact location near the rocks, so it is advisable to clearly arrange the pickup point and time before arriving by boat. All waste must be taken back to Komiža.
Who Will Enjoy Storo Pošta
Storo Pošta is the best choice for couples, naturists, good swimmers, and visitors who can navigate the rocky coast safely. It is especially pleasant when arriving by small boat and finding a quiet spot among the rocks or pebbles.
It is not among the more practical beaches for families with small children. There is no reliable shade, long shallow areas, or easy walking access, and disembarking from a boat depends on sea conditions. It is also not suitable for individuals with limited mobility, strollers, or carrying large amounts of equipment.
This is not a place to visit at all costs. When the sea is calm, Storo Pošta offers exactly what is expected from this part of the Komiža coast – tranquility, clear water, and a few secluded spots away from city beaches. When the wind blows or the rocks are wet, it is better to stay in a more accessible part of the coast and save the visit for another day.
