BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION

Crikvenica is a town, port and seaside resort located at the mouth of the Dubračina River, just under 40 kilometers southeast of Rijeka. Crikvenica has excellent transport connections and is easily accessible to visitors coming from Central Europe. If you are coming from the east, from the direction of Zagreb, you can reach it by the Rijeka-Zagreb highway or the old road from the direction of Zagreb ending in Gornji Jelenje. Crikvenica can also be easily reached from the south. Crikvenica is well connected by bus lines that are very frequent and go to various centers. The nearest train station is in Rijeka. For arrivals by plane, the nearest airport is Rijeka Airport, about 20 kilometers away. The port in Crikvenica is still used for regional traffic by smaller ships, but an important route for travel by boat is the Crikvenica-Šilo route, which connects the city with the island of Krk.

CULTURE, HISTORY AND ATTRACTIONS

Although the Crikvenica area was inhabited in ancient times under the name "Ad Turres", the city was first mentioned in the 15th century. The Middle Ages were marked by the ruling Frankopan family, and during the Austro-Hungarian rule in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Crikvenica grew into a famous tourist center. Among the cultural attractions, you can visit the archaeological site of Lovišće, dating back to Roman times. To enjoy the historical heritage, you can visit various small churches that testify to the existence of sacral architecture, and the surrounding towns of Drivenik, Grižane and Bribir were built in the Middle Ages. The Crikvenica City Museum contains very interesting historical collections and is located near the city center. The meteorological station from 1900, the tuners in Jadranovo and Selce, as a symbol of the rich fishing tradition, and the Polača water source in Selce, are some of the attractions that can also be visited.

BEACHES

The Crikvenica Riviera is full of beaches and coves that can be visited, some of which are secluded and guarantee enjoyment in complete silence and the beauty of the environment. Along the beaches there are often beautiful promenades surrounded by Mediterranean plants. Some of the more famous beaches are Kačjak, Trstena, Tepla, Grabrova, Havišće, Tunera, Lanterna, Riviera, Vali and the Crikvenica City Beach. The sea water is very clean at all beaches (some have the blue flag), many of them are adapted for the disabled, and there is also a dog beach near the port of Podvorska.

OTHER CONTENT

The gastronomic offer in Crikvenica is top-notch and there are a large number of restaurants (e.g. Dida restaurant, Corso, Rubin, Zrinski, etc.) where you can even try authentic Crikvenica dishes. The "Blue Fish Road" is a year-round gastronomic event that promotes oily fish and delicacies made from oily fish. Crikvenica has a large number of taverns, cafes and bars located right near the beaches, and for nightlife, the Pulse, Kataka, Marota and many others are the centers. The great tradition of health tourism, which has existed since the end of the 19th century, is visible in the Thalassotherapia Crikvenica medical centers, the Oxy Baromedicine Polyclinic, the Selce Terme and the Katunar Polyclinic.

SPORT

Due to the excellent climate conditions, Crikvenica offers a wide range of sports activities, such as cycling trails, football, basketball and tennis courts, diving clubs, sailing regattas, fishing... The sports hall in Crikvenica also has a truly diverse offer for recreational and professional sports enthusiasts.

WHAT TO DO – EXCURSION POSSIBILITY

All the places along the Crikvenica Riviera offer great destinations for excursions and spending time in nature. Many tourist agencies offer visits to the islands of Krk, Rab and the islet of Košljun (where there is a Franciscan monastery with rich ethnographic collections), and you can also explore the entire local waters. In the city center there is the Aquarium Crikvenica, which contains over a hundred marine animal species from the Adriatic in more than 30 pools. For couples in love, there are special locations on offer – the Love Path and the Mediterranean Labyrinth of Love.

Camping is possible in the Selce and Uvala Slana campsites and the Kačjak campsite. The marinas in Selce and Crikvenica are the most famous boat docks with a very rich offer.
