Šipova Beach – Natural Sandy Cove Next to Maslinica

Šipova Beach is located west of Maslinica, in a quiet cove surrounded by rocky slopes and Mediterranean vegetation. It is notable for being considered the only natural sandy beach on Šolta, although small pebbles and stones can also be found along the shore next to the sand.

We often recommend Šipova to those seeking a more natural bathing spot, clear water, and a quieter atmosphere away from the center of Maslinica. The beach is not large, but this gives it a more intimate character, especially outside the main summer crowds.

What is Šipova Beach Like?

The beach is located at the end of the cove. The central part of the shore is the most pleasant for entering the water, while the edges are dominated by rocks and larger stones.

The seabed in the shallow area is mostly sandy, and the entry into the water is gentle and gradual. For this reason, Šipova is suitable for families with children and bathers who prefer less steep rocky shores, which are common on Šolta.

The water is very clear in calm conditions, and due to the lighter seabed, it takes on beautiful turquoise shades. The edges of the cove are good for swimming and snorkeling, while the central shallower part is more suitable for relaxed bathing.

Water shoes will not be necessary for most people at the main entrance, but they may be useful if swimming near the rocky edges of the cove.

Natural Shade

Surrounding the cove is Mediterranean vegetation, but there is no reliable natural shade on the beach throughout the day. The shadow from the surrounding slopes changes depending on the sun's position, so one should not rely on shade during the hottest hours.

For a longer stay, it is advisable to bring an umbrella, enough water, and sun protection. Mornings are more pleasant, especially in summer, when the sand and stones heat up significantly later in the day.

How to Get There by Car

To reach Šipova from Maslinica, take the road towards the western part of the island. The road is now asphalted all the way to the cove, making access by car significantly easier than before.

The road is local, narrow, and winding, so it is important to drive slowly and be prepared to pass vehicles coming from the opposite direction. In some sections, there is not much space, especially during July and August when traffic to the beach increases.

You can reach the cove by a regular passenger car. There is no need for an off-road vehicle or driving on unpaved roads.

Parking at Šipova Beach

Parking is available in the area just before the beach and at the end of the road. It is not a large organized public parking lot, so the number of spaces is limited.

During the main season, it is best to arrive early as free spots fill up quickly. Vehicles should be parked in a way that does not block the road, turning areas, access to properties, or passage for other cars.

When all nearby spots are occupied, cars should be parked further along the road in a safe widening, and the last part should be walked.

Walking from Maslinica

The beach can also be reached on foot from Maslinica. The path follows an asphalt road through a quieter and uninhabited part of western Šolta.

The walk is not particularly demanding, but in summer, there is often not enough shade along most of the route. It is best to start walking early in the morning or later in the afternoon and to bring enough water.

The return to Maslinica may be somewhat tiring due to the ascent and summer heat, especially if carrying many items for the beach.

Facilities at the Beach

There are no tourist or hospitality facilities at the beach, so everything needed for your stay should be brought from Maslinica.

It is advisable to bring enough water, a light meal, an umbrella, and a bag for waste. The nearest shops, cafes, and restaurants are located in Maslinica.

Šipova is a natural beach and is not maintained in the same way as urban bathing areas. After wind and rough seas, seaweed, branches, and other natural materials may wash up on the shore.

Is Šipova Suitable for Children?

Due to the gentle entry into the water and sandy bottom, Šipova is among the more pleasant beaches on Šolta for children. The shallow area provides more space for play than most rocky bathing spots on the island.

However, the beach is small and there is not much flat surface for laying out towels and equipment. During the main season, several families can occupy a large part of the central shore, so it is best to arrive early.

Strollers can be brought along the asphalt road close to the cove, but the final access to the shore and moving over sand, pebbles, and stones is not entirely practical.

Arriving by Boat

Šipova is beautiful from the sea, and during the summer, small boats can often be seen in the cove. The cove does not have organized moorings or a marina, and vessels anchor on their own.

When anchoring, care should be taken regarding depth, seabed, bathers, and weather conditions. Boats should not approach the shallow area or the main part of the beach.

When stronger winds blow from the open sea, the cove can become choppy and less pleasant for staying. It is most beautiful in stable weather and light winds.

The Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Šipova is in the morning. At this time, the road is quieter, parking is more accessible, and the beach is not yet crowded.

June and September are particularly pleasant as the sea is warm enough, and the number of visitors is lower than in July and August. During the main season, the beach is no longer completely hidden and secluded, but it still has a more natural atmosphere than bathing areas closer to the center of Maslinica.

Evenings are also pleasant as the sun weakens, but it should be noted that the cove begins to be shaded by the surrounding slopes earlier.

Who Will Enjoy Šipova?

Šipova Beach is the best choice for those who enjoy natural coves, sandy seabeds, gentle entries into the water, and swimming without large tourist facilities.

It will particularly appeal to families with children, couples, and visitors who want to spend a few hours away from the livelier part of Maslinica. It may be less suitable for those looking for large spaces, organized facilities, and guaranteed free parking right by the beach.

The greatest advantage of Šipova today is the combination of natural appearance and easier access. The asphalt road leads all the way to the cove, but despite this, the beach has retained a quieter character and one of the most beautiful sandy bottoms on Šolta.
