BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION
Rogoznica is the southernmost town on the Šibenik Riviera. It is located 34 kilometers from Šibenik. It is located on a part of the mainland called Kopača and on the islet of Kopara, which was connected to the mainland by an artificial causeway in the second half of the 19th century. The town has a population of 2,345 and is located on the Adriatic Highway on the way from Rijeka to Split. The nearest airports are Split and Zadar, and the A1 motorway is nearby, which you can reach from Zagreb. If you are a sailor, there is also the Frapa marina in Rogoznica with 400 berths at sea and 150 on land.
CULTURE, HISTORY AND ATTRACTIONS
The first evidence of the existence of a settlement on the mainland dates back to 1390. However, fearing the Turks, the population settled the islet of Kopara across the way in 1518. When the danger passed, they dug a road between the island and the mainland. The town also contains the remains of a fortress that the French began to build in 1809. In Rogoznica Field, there is the church of St. Nicholas with stečka tombstones next to the Loznica cave and the small church of Blessed John of Trogir from the 14th century. It is also worth visiting the Sanctuary of the Mother of God - Our Lady of Kapelica and the parish church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. A local attraction is also the natural phenomenon of the salt lake Dragon's Eye.
