Martinica Beach Bol | Pebble Beach Below the Dominican Monastery

Martinica Beach is located on the eastern side of Bol, beneath the Dominican Monastery, in a quieter part of the town, over a kilometre from the central Bol waterfront. Unlike the beaches along the promenade towards Zlatni Rat, Martinica belongs to the eastern coast of Bol and offers a distinctly different experience – less crowded, a more natural environment, and one of the finest views of the historic monastery complex.

The beach is covered in fine pebbles and smaller stones, with a gradual entry into the sea, making it suitable for families with children. The water is exceptionally clear and transparent, featuring the characteristic turquoise hues typical of this part of the Brač coastline. Due to its quieter location and the clarity of the sea, Martinica is ideal for swimming, snorkelling, and a relaxing stay away from the busiest spots.

One of the beach's most notable features is its proximity to the 15th-century Dominican Monastery. The monastery rises above the beach, giving the entire area a unique appearance that is rarely found at other beaches in Bol. This combination of cultural heritage, pine trees, and pristine waters makes Martinica one of the most recognisable beaches to the east of Bol's centre.

There is some natural shade on the beach, but it is not evenly distributed along the shore, so it is advisable to bring your own sunshade during the summer months. Martinica does not have the developed tourist infrastructure found at Zlatni Rat. Visitors should not expect a wide range of dining options, organised beach services, or a long line of sun loungers. This is precisely why it retains a quieter and more natural character.

It is important to distinguish Martinica from the neighbouring Kotlin Beach. The restaurant Ribarska Kućica is located on Kotlin Beach, not on Martinica. Kotlin can be reached from Martinica by a short walk along the coast, allowing for a swim at Martinica to be easily combined with lunch or dinner at Ribarska Kućica, although the restaurant is not situated directly on Martinica Beach.

To reach the beach from the centre of Bol, one can walk along the coastal promenade towards the Dominican Monastery. The walk takes about 15 to 20 minutes, depending on your starting point. By car, public parking is available near the monastery and the eastern part of Bol, followed by a short walk to the beach. During July and August, parking spaces may be limited, so it is best to arrive early in the morning.

Martinica Beach is a good choice for visitors looking to avoid the busiest beaches while still remaining relatively close to Bol. It is particularly suitable for families, couples, and anyone who enjoys quieter pebble beaches with clear waters and a natural setting.

If you are seeking a beach where swimming, tranquillity, and views of one of Bol's most significant cultural monuments can be enjoyed, Martinica is one of the best spots on the eastern side of the town.
