World Olive Picking Championship | A Unique Competition Held in Postira on Brač
The World Olive Picking Championship takes place every October in Postira on Brač and is regarded as one of the most unusual competitions related to olive cultivation in Europe. The event was established in 2017 to promote the Brač tradition of olive growing, olive oil production, and life in the island's olive groves.
The competition is held in the olive groves above Postira, most commonly in the St. Joseph olive grove, where teams from various countries compete in traditional hand olive picking. Each team consists of two women and two men, and the olives are harvested in the traditional Brač manner — by hand, using 'saketa', traditional jute aprons in which the fruit is collected before being transferred to crates.
A distinctive feature of the championship is the participation of countries that do not have a developed olive-growing tradition. Over the years, teams from across Europe have come to Postira, as well as participants from countries that do not have a single olive tree. This aspect gives the event more of an international gathering and cultural exchange character than that of a conventional sporting competition.
In addition to the olive picking itself, the programme includes olive oil tastings, workshops, tours of Brač, evening festivities, and social gatherings in Postira. During the competition weekend, the entire village becomes bustling with visitors, supporters, and participants, while restaurants and waterfronts remain lively until late at night.
The event has gained recognition beyond Croatia and won the international Creative Tourism Network award in 2019 for the best creative tourism experience.
For visitors, the championship is appealing as it offers a chance to witness traditional olive picking on Brač, as well as to experience local gastronomy, olive culture, and life in the island's interior during autumn, when the main tourist season comes to an end.

Persons under the age of thirteen are not allowed to enter any content. General terms can be changed from time to time and if the user or supplier doesn’t agree with the changed general terms and conditions he can remove his content from the site.

The page is not the media that publishes editorial program contents but the page where the visitors publish information that serve for the educational and cultural public informing about the touristic, cultural and gastronomic contents (facilities). The goal of the site is to collect the information that will give the tourists, as well as the locals, the insight into touristic, cultural and gastronomic offer of the certain location (city, region and country). Except the touristic content , on these pages, providers of various services in tourism may publish and advertise services they offer. These are, further in the text, referred to as a suppliers. By publishing the certain text, comment, photo or video movie on the site, the user guarantees that the published information are true, and that they are not copyrighted by a third party. Each user is morally and materially responsible for the publication of content. It is forbidden to copy texts from other websites. Administrators review entered contents and approve them for publishing. Holiday-Link.com has the right not to show the content it finds inappropriate, untrue or offensive. The owners, managers or employees of the gastronomic facilities (eg. restaurants) have the right to reply to the articles and comments on their own content. 4. The obligations of suppliers of tourist services (accommodation and other services)
Company Holiday-Link.com Ltd acts as advertising website on this website and not as a tour operator or intermediary travel agency. Suppliers of tourist services who register their capacity on this site, pay the commercial advertising model they choose. Interaction, regarding arranging a specific accommodation or other tourist service, is done directly between supplier and visitor. Visitors arrange the accommodation or some other touristic service directly with the suppliers and pay the arranged service to them.
