Kaštel Cerineo in Škrip – a historic fortress and symbol of the defense of Brač
Kaštel Cerineo (Cerinić) is one of the most important historical buildings in Škrip and a symbol of defensive architecture on the island of Brač. Located in the heart of the oldest settlement on the island, this castle bears witness to a turbulent past and the protection of the population from attacks in the 16th century.
History and significance
The castle was built by the noble Cerinić family in the 16th century , during the Ottoman threats and pirate attacks. Built of the famous Brač stone, it served as a fortress and shelter for the local population.
