BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION

Omišalj is a town and port on the northwestern coast of Krk. The town has a population of just under 2,000. Omišalj has excellent transport connections, as it can be reached by car immediately after crossing the Krk Bridge, and Rijeka Airport is nearby, and you can fly directly to the town by plane. Bus arrivals are possible from the Rijeka train station directly to the Omišalj bus station, and the lines are very frequent and run almost every hour. Arrival by train is scheduled for the Rijeka train station (26 kilometers away) and then transfer to a bus. From Rijeka, you can take a catamaran or ferry to the port of Valbiska and then continue towards Omišalj, which is 24 kilometers away.

CULTURE, HISTORY AND ATTRACTIONS

The beginnings of culture in Omišalj in ancient times are evidenced by the remains of an early Christian basilica from the 5th century and the Roman municipium Fulfinum in the Sepen Bay in the Mirine area. Omišalj was first mentioned as a settlement in 1153 and experienced its rise during the Middle Ages. A collection that speaks volumes about that period and the centuries-old tradition and culture of Omišalj is the Lapidarium. It is a small collection of stone monuments that are evidence of the Glagolitic tradition of the island. The rest of the cultural wealth of tangible and intangible heritage can be seen when visiting the streets of Klančina and Panćirov (there is a house from the Renaissance), the Memorial House of Krk Folklore, the "Vid Omišaljanin" library, the Kaštela, the Church of St. Nicholas, the Memorial Park of St. Mikul, Placa (the historic core of Omišalj) and the Marangunija of Toma Lesica.

BEACHES

The beach in Omišalj that proudly carries the blue flag is Pesja. The beach is located in the bay of the same name, is shaded by a pine forest and is accessible to people with disabilities. Večja Beach is also a famous beach with a wealth of facilities and has an accessible access for people with disabilities. Other famous beaches in Omišalj are Jadran and Učka.

OTHER CONTENT

Excellent gastronomic delicacies can be enjoyed in the restaurants Trops and Kaštel and the tavern Ulikva. Their offer is at a very high level. The offer of café bars in Omišalj is large and almost all of them are located in the beautiful surroundings of the city walls or near the beaches. There are numerous events during the summer season. Visitors can enjoy the following: Omišalj Rosette (festival of female klapa groups), Classics in Mirine, Folk Theater Festival, Ancient Days, Stomorina (Catholic feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary), KreKo (eco event), Big OM, Ice Cream Festival, Utrka kareta i fritulijada and Whit Tuesday. In addition to the above, there are also very frequent fishermen's festivals.

SPORT

Oto nautika is a center in Omišalj for renting various sports vehicles and boats. It can be visited by all lovers of adrenaline rides and other water sports because the center has a rich offer and course options. In Omišalj there is a sailing club Pesja that sailing lovers can visit. To enjoy riding on numerous trails, scooters and bicycles are available for rent. Exercise and maintaining fitness is possible in the Beli Kamik gym. Animal and horse riding lovers can visit the nearby Njivice equestrian club.

WHAT TO DO – EXCURSION POSSIBILITY

Boat trips are a very popular way to go on excursions due to their specific offer. The semi-submarine Marlin is a great opportunity for family trips, and is especially interesting for children. It is a submarine-shaped vessel, has 12 seats and is intended for exploring the underwater world. The Bi Boat charter can be rented and you can use it to see the beauties of the island of Krk from the open sea. A great destination for nature trips is Park Dubec. The park was created in 1925 and to this day remains a place full of numerous hiking trails and indigenous flora. Another natural phenomenon near Njivice is the lake, which is considered the largest freshwater habitat on the island of Krk. The lake has lush vegetation and is a habitat for birds, the most interesting of which are cranes. Excursion options include visits to other nearby islands.
