BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION

Tisno is a town and municipality in Šibenik-Knin County. It is located partly on the Tisno Peninsula and partly on the island of Murter. The strait between the island and the mainland is 38 meters wide and is connected by a drawbridge. The town is connected to the Dalmatian cities of Šibenik, Split and Zadar by the main road D8 and the A1 motorway. According to the last census, it has 1287 inhabitants who are engaged in olive growing, viticulture and, of course, tourism.

CULTURE, HISTORY AND ATTRACTIONS

The town was named after the aforementioned strait. The oldest Croatian name TISCHNO is found in a 16th century plan in the Šibenik City Museum. Historians say that the town was founded by refugees from the Turks. In 1548, Tisno received its own parish when the Church of the Holy Spirit was consecrated there. During the 18th century, numerous wealthy families from Italy moved to Tisno, who assimilated over time. From that time, 11 villas and the Mazzura Palace remain, which today houses the municipal administration and the Municipal Court. On the Brošćica hill above Tisno is the shrine of Our Lady of Karavaja (18th century).

BEACHES

Near the town is the beach Jazine. Pebbly and with stone blocks, pine forest and catering and sports facilities. On the edge of the town is the beach of St. Andrew, rocky with pine shade, ideal for lovers of peace and quiet.

In addition to water sports, you can try your hand at basketball, jogging, cycling and exploring other places on Murter, rent a boat and set off to the Kornati Islands.

WHAT TO DO AND EXCURSION OPPORTUNITIES

Like other places on Murter, from Tisno you can go on day trips to the Kornati and Krka national parks, to the Vrana Lake nature park, to visit Šibenik and the slightly more distant Zadar, Split or Trogir. The Paklenica and Plitvice Lakes national parks are not far away either. Local boatmen can take you on a fish picnic or a tour of the nearby waters.
