Fast Food Fani in Komiža
Fast Food Fani is located just a few steps from the waterfront in Komiža, on Hrvatskih mučenika Street, near Škoro and the old part of town. It is not a restaurant for a lengthy dinner, but rather a place to grab a substantial sandwich, burger, ćevapi or something quick to take away before heading to the beach, after returning from a boat trip, or later in the evening.
Fani has long been part of the fast food offering in Komiža and is best viewed as such – a straightforward spot for a proper meal without the need for reservations, multi-course service, or waiting for a table by the sea. It is particularly convenient when one does not want to dine in a restaurant every evening or needs to pick up something to take back to their apartment.
Sandwiches are one of the main reasons to stop by
If you're looking for something quick and filling, sandwiches are among the most practical options. The portions are quite generous, and alongside the basic filling, you can add salad and sauces, allowing for a meal tailored to your taste.
A sandwich makes sense before heading to a more distant beach, especially if you plan to spend several hours where there are no beach bars or shops. For a boat trip, it is also more practical than a meal that needs to be eaten immediately at a table.
If you plan to carry food for a longer time in the summer heat, it’s better to choose a simpler sandwich without delicate extras and eat it as soon as possible.
Burgers, ćevapi and chips for a more substantial meal
Fani is not just a place for sandwiches. The menu includes burgers and cheeseburgers, ćevapi, grilled meats, and chips, so you can opt for a heartier meal when returning from a day by the sea feeling quite hungry.
This is especially convenient for younger guests and families who, after several fish lunches, simply want something familiar. There’s no need to study a large restaurant menu – just order, wait for it to be prepared, and eat on the spot or take it away.
Chips are a good addition if sharing a larger sandwich or portion, but with bigger servings, it’s often unnecessary to order too many sides.
Komiža pie for something local
The menu also features Komiža pie, allowing Fani to serve one of the island of Vis's most famous dishes without needing to go to a restaurant.
A proper Komiža pie is made with tomatoes, salted fish, and onions encased in dough. It is a simple fisherman's dish that makes the most sense in Komiža, where it is not intended as a fancy starter but as a substantial bite that can be eaten by hand.
If fresh pie is available that day, it’s best to grab it while it’s still warm. Komiža pie loses much of its appeal when it sits for too long, so it’s worth checking what has just been prepared before purchasing.
A good spot before heading to the beach
The location is one of Fani's greatest advantages. It’s just a few minutes from the centre of Komiža, making it easy to continue on to Gusarica, Kamenice, or other parts of the area.
For beaches like Pizdica, Templuža, Storo Pošta, or Žukamica, where there are no dining options on-site, you can pick up something to take with you before you set off. A sandwich is more practical for such an outing than a burger with lots of sauces or food that cools quickly and is difficult to transport.
Do remember to buy water separately and bring enough, especially when heading to a beach where returning to town is not straightforward.
Useful when restaurants aren’t what you’re after
In the evenings, you can eat very well in Komiža, but not every day calls for fish, a tavern, and a two-hour dinner. Fani has its place here.
After returning from a full-day boat trip, it’s often enough to grab something quick and head back to the apartment. The same applies when travelling with children who are hungry immediately, rather than after waiting for a table and order.
It’s also good for a group wanting different meals. One person can have ćevapi, another a burger, and a third a sandwich or Komiža pie, without needing to agree on a single restaurant.
Not a place for the ambience
At Fani, the reason for visiting isn’t the sea view or the evening atmosphere of a terrace. The establishment is set slightly back from the waterfront and primarily operates as fast food.
For a romantic dinner, a glass of wine by the sea, or a leisurely lunch, there are far more suitable restaurants in Komiža. Fani is best when the priority is quick, simple, and filling.
Its proximity to the centre works in its favour – food can be picked up and within minutes you can be back at the waterfront, in your apartment, or on your way to the beach.
Arrival and parking
If you are staying in Komiža, a car is not necessary. Fast Food Fani is very close to the waterfront and is best reached on foot through the centre.
If coming from another part of the island, it’s better to leave your vehicle at a public car park. The streets of the old part of Komiža are narrow, and during the summer, it’s not practical to try and park right next to the establishment.
For takeaway food, it’s convenient to order towards the end of your walk around town, pick it up, and continue to the car park or your apartment.
When Fani makes the most sense
I would choose Fani when needing a quick and straightforward meal without the restaurant routine. A large sandwich before the beach, a cheeseburger after returning from the sea, ćevapi for an easy dinner, or a piece of Komiža pie for something local – these are the situations in which this small fast food establishment excels.
Don’t expect a gastronomic interpretation of Vis or compare it to Komiža taverns. Its advantage is entirely different: it’s centrally located, the offering is simple, food can be taken away, and it’s just right when you want to eat quickly and move on.
