Lučica Beach in Komiža

Lučica Beach is located on the southern side of Komiža, just beyond the large breakwater that encloses the town harbour. It can be reached from the centre in just a few minutes on foot, making it one of the most convenient beaches for visitors staying in the old part of the town who prefer not to drive for every swim.

This is not a large beach where one can easily find peace and ample space; rather, it is a smaller urban shore connected to the surrounding houses, boats, and the daily life of Komiža. It is best suited for morning swims, a few hours by the sea, or a quick refreshment during a walk towards Kamenice and the beaches on the southern part of the bay.

Pebble Beach Close to the Centre

Lučica is a pebble beach, bordered by rocky and landscaped sections of the coast. The easiest access to the water is via the central part of the shore, without descending from the rocks. The seabed in the shallows is a mix of pebbles and stones, so footwear is not essential, but it may be useful for children and those who find walking on uneven ground uncomfortable.

The beach is not wide, and part of the space is used by smaller boats that are pulled up onto the shore or moored in front of the beach. Therefore, swimmers should be mindful of vessels and avoid venturing too far into the area used for entering the small harbour.

For families with children, Lučica is practical primarily due to its proximity to accommodation, the waterfront, and dining options. However, due to its limited space and the presence of boats, it is not as spacious as the larger Gusarica. The most pleasant time to visit is in the morning when there is more room on the pebbles and fewer passers-by along the shore.

Shade and Facilities by the Beach

There is not much reliable natural shade on the beach itself. The shadow from surrounding buildings may cover certain parts of the beach during parts of the day, but for a longer stay, it is advisable to bring your own sun protection.

During the tourist season, Beach Bar Lučica operates nearby, where one can sit down for a coffee or a cold drink right by the sea. Seasonal amenities such as showers, changing cabins, and sunbed rentals have been available on the beach, but the availability of specific services may vary, so they should not be assumed to be guaranteed outside the main part of summer.

The proximity to the centre means that restaurants, cafés, shops, and other facilities are just a few minutes' walk away. Lučica is therefore suitable for a shorter stay without the need to carry large supplies of food and water.

How to Reach Lučica Beach

From the main waterfront in Komiža, head towards the southern side of the harbour, passing by Komuna and continuing along Obala pape Aleksandra III. After the large breakwater, you will soon arrive at a small cove and pebble beach. It takes approximately five to ten minutes of easy walking from the narrowest part of Komiža.

The path leads along a well-maintained urban street and does not involve any significant incline. The beach is located just below the coastal road, so there is no long or demanding trail to descend. However, the final crossing over the pebbles may be tricky for those with mobility issues.

Lučica is easily connected to a walk towards the neighbouring Jurkovica, and from there, the path continues towards Kamenice and the more natural bathing spots on the southern side of the Komiža bay.

Arriving by Car and Parking

You can drive along the road above the beach, but there is no large parking area designated for bathers near Lučica. The roadside space is limited, and during the summer, available spots fill up quickly. Vehicles should not be left in narrow passages, in front of houses, or in places that obstruct traffic towards the southern part of Komiža.

The most practical option is to leave the car in one of the public car parks in the town and continue on foot to Lučica. Since the beach is very close to the waterfront, driving is generally unnecessary for guests staying in Komiža.

Who the Beach is Best Suited For

Lučica is a good choice for visitors who want to be close to the centre, have a quick swim, and enjoy a bar right by the shore. It is suitable for couples, solo bathers, and families who do not wish to carry equipment to more distant beaches.

For older individuals, the access is not demanding as there are no long paths or steep inclines, but walking on the pebbles can be challenging. The beach is not fully accessible for those in wheelchairs, particularly when it comes to reaching the water.

For a full day with small children, a lot of equipment, and a need for a more spacious shore, Gusarica may be more practical. Lučica is a better option when looking for a smaller urban beach just a few minutes from accommodation, cafés, and evening strolls along the waterfront.

The Best Time for Swimming

The calmest time is early in the morning when there are still not many bathers or boats in motion. Later in the day, the shore may become busier, but the proximity of the beach bar then becomes one of Lučica's main advantages.

In the evening, it is pleasant to combine a short swim with a drink by the sea or continue the walk towards Kamenice. The beach is accessible year-round, while the beach bar, showers, cabins, and other services are generally tied to the summer season.

Lučica Beach is not a place to visit for solitude and unspoiled nature. Its advantage is quite the opposite: it is located next to the town, easily accessible on foot, and allows swimming to fit seamlessly into daily life in Komiža without special planning.
