BASIC INFORMATION AND HISTORY
Mimice is a village and summer resort located 15 km southeast of the town of Omiš. In the hinterland is the Dinara mountain, and at the foot of the Adriatic Sea. The state road D8 runs through the center. According to the last census, Mimice has 250 inhabitants, and they are mainly engaged in tourism, agriculture and fishing. If you are coming to Split by plane, train or boat, regular bus lines to the south also pass through Mimice.
CULTURE, HISTORY AND ATTRACTIONS
The town was first mentioned in the mid-17th century, as evidenced by finds in the area around the local church and cemetery. During World War II, Mimice, along with nearby Omiš, were part of the Independent State of Croatia. It is no coincidence that Alberto Fortis, a Venetian travel writer, said while passing through Mimice; "This is a place of absolute beauty!" Old Mimice on the upper side of the Adriatic Highway is made up of stone houses and concentrated around the church of St. Roko. The village comes alive in the summer when the population returns for vacation.
BEACHES
Mimice has a small harbor and two pebble beaches: Juto and Kutleša. Juto is the main local beach, ideal for a family vacation, and Kutleša is an extension of the bay.
OTHER CONTENT
Gastronomy is offered in the Carevi Dvori restaurant, the Val tavern-pizzeria, the Puntari coffee bar-pizzeria and the Emi bar-restaurant. For something a little more extensive, Omiš is nearby, as well as Split and Makarska. There is a market, post office, travel agency and ATM in the town. During the summer, fishermen's evenings, dances, poetry evenings and karaoke parties are organized, and the St. Roch festival also attracts visitors from neighboring towns.
SPORT
In addition to sea and nautical activities, we recommend walks and hiking in the beautiful nature of Omiš's Dinara. Nearby are caves: Spužarica, Mateškova, Velika Radomajka and Gubava špilja, and you can jog and cycle along the old road to Omiš.
WHAT TO DO AND EXCURSION OPPORTUNITIES
A local agency offers day trips by boat to Brač, Hvar and Vrulja. You can learn to fish with professional fishermen on board. There are also hiking tours to the Kosmatica hill above the town and tours to the Cetina canyon.
ACCOMMODATION
Due to its location, almost every apartment in Mimice has a view of the Adriatic Sea and the northern side of the island of Brač. Accommodation is offered by the hotels Croatia Sydney and Pleter, as well as numerous apartments and villas in private arrangements.
