valley. There are three towns in the Neretva River valley: Metković, Opuzen and Ploče. The town of Opuzen includes Buk-Vlaka, a settlement on the right bank of the Mala Neretva, and Pržinovac. According to the last census, the town has 3,254 inhabitants. Opuzen has a very favorable location, at the intersection of the Sarajevo-Ploče-Dubrovnik roads. As a location within important development corridors, it follows the main traffic routes, i.e. the state roads D8 and D9, the Neretva waterway and the first-class railway. The nearest airport is in Dubrovnik.

CULTURE, HISTORY AND ATTRACTIONS

The history of the city dates back to the early days of the Dubrovnik Republic, when it was mentioned as the island of Posrednica, a salt market and emporium. Opuzen was named after the fortress Fort Opus, which the Venetians built in 1684 on the ruins of the Koš tower, whose ramparts today adorn the old part of the city. The city center is adorned with a classic Roman forum-market, the church of St. Stephen, the houses of Oman and Sušan, the city promenade along the Neretva and the bridge on the Mala Neretva. The patron saint of the city is St. Stephen the First Martyr, who is celebrated every August 3rd.

BEACHES

The public beach at Usce is the closest, but there are numerous nearby beaches in neighboring towns on the Adriatic coast.

OTHER CONTENT

The Klek and Merlot restaurants offer numerous local specialties, as does the Pod maslinom tavern. The city also has numerous coffee bars and the Havana club. Metković and Ploče are nearby if you want to expand your offer. Numerous events attract visitors from all over Croatia, but also from around the world. We will mention the most attractive ones: Opuzensko lito, the Melodija hrvatskog juga festival and by far the most attractive, the Maraton lađa.

SPORT

In addition to hiking and jogging along the coast, fans of kitesurfing and windsurfing gather at the estuary because of the favorable wind. You can also try sport fishing.

WHAT TO DO AND SIGHTSEEING OPPORTUNITIES

Excursions to Dubrovnik, Mostar and Međugorje, to the archaeological site and museum of Narona and to the Baćina Lakes have been organized.
