Mala Krušica Beach – A Tranquil Pebble Shore in Donja Krušica
Mala Krušica Beach is located on the eastern side of the Donja Krušica bay, a short distance from the houses and the small harbour. It is a small natural shore featuring pebbles, stones, and rocky edges, without any developed tourist infrastructure or significant summer crowds.
We particularly enjoy visiting in the morning when the sea is calm and there are not many people on the beach. The water is generally very clear and transparent, with the easiest access to the sea via the central pebbly area. The edges have more stones and rocks, so water shoes can be useful, especially for children and those who find walking on pebbles uncomfortable.
The seabed starts off pebbly and rocky, gradually increasing in depth. The beach is suitable for swimming and snorkelling, as small fish and natural seabed can be seen along the rocky edges. However, caution is advised due to sea urchins and slippery stones.
There is limited natural shade available. Some shade can be found near the vegetation and along the beach edges, but it moves throughout the day and is insufficient for all visitors. For a longer stay, it is advisable to bring a sunshade, plenty of water, and sun protection.
The beach lacks showers, changing cabins, public toilets, lifeguards, sun loungers, or any catering facilities. There are no shops in the immediate vicinity, so food, drinks, and all necessary items for swimming should be brought along.
Access to Donja Krušica is via a narrow, winding local road from Donje Selo. In some sections, it can be difficult for two wider vehicles to pass, so it is important to drive slowly and utilise the pull-ins along the road. I would not recommend descending with a larger van or camper without first checking the route and turning space.
There is no designated parking near Mala Krušica. Space between the houses is limited, and many spots belong to private properties and their guests. Cars should be parked in permitted areas in the wider part of the bay, and the final stretch should be completed on foot, without blocking access to houses and boats.
Access to the beach is via a local path and part of the coastline. This is not a wide, well-maintained promenade, so the ground can be uneven and rocky. Sturdy sandals or trainers are more practical than thin flip-flops, especially if carrying multiple items.
The beach is not particularly suitable for pushchairs or individuals with reduced mobility. Families with children may find it appealing due to the peaceful atmosphere and gradual entry into the sea, but there are no lifeguards, playgrounds, or other facilities, so children should be supervised at all times.
As Mala Krušica is located on the northern side of Šolta, conditions depend on the wind. When the bora or a stronger northern wind blows, the sea can become choppy, and the pebbly part of the beach narrows. It is advisable to check the wind direction before visiting, not just the air temperature.
The most pleasant months are June and September, when the sea is warm and there are fewer people in the bay. In July and August, it is best to arrive early in the morning when it is easier to find parking and a free spot on the beach.
Mala Krušica is not a beach for those seeking sun loungers, bars, music, and all-day service. It is more suited to those who enjoy small natural bathing spots, clear water, and tranquillity. When there is no wind and the shore is not crowded, it is one of the more pleasant places for relaxed swimming in the Donja Krušica area.
