Luka Rogač Beach – a small pebble bathing area in a quieter part of the harbour
Luka Rogač Beach is located on the western side of Rogač cove, in a residential area with small quays, moorings, and old houses by the sea. It is situated between the central part of the harbour and Banje Beach, although they are not the same bathing area. Luka Rogač is closer to the interior of the cove and the ferry terminal, while Banje is located further west. Due to their proximity and the short coastal distance, the names are sometimes mixed up on certain maps and tourist websites.
From the ferry, the beach appears to be very close, but it cannot be accessed directly across the harbour. It is necessary to circle around the end of the cove via the local road, so from the ferry terminal, one should expect to walk approximately 700 to 900 metres, which takes about ten to fifteen minutes. Those arriving in Šolta without a car can swim here before heading to other locations or before returning by ferry, but it is advisable to allow enough time to walk back to the terminal.
The beach can be reached via an asphalt road through the western part of Rogač. The route passes by houses and apartments, and the final stretch leads almost to the water's edge. The road is not particularly wide, but access by a regular car is possible without driving on unpaved surfaces. Walking to the beach is straightforward, with no challenging paths, although there is limited shade along parts of the route during the summer.
Parking near the beach is not organised as a large separate car park designated solely for bathers. Cars are left in available spaces along the access road and on surrounding public areas. Some guides mention a larger number of parking spaces in the wider area, but this does not guarantee that a free spot will be available right next to your towel. During July and August, it is advisable to arrive early and ensure that your vehicle does not block the road, access to houses, or areas used by local residents and boaters.
The beach itself is not large. The main area is covered with fine to medium-sized pebbles, and it is bordered by concrete quays and stone surfaces where towels can also be placed. The bathing area is separated by buoys from the space used by boats, which is important as the beach is located within an active harbour with smaller vessels moored. Photographs of the location show the pebbly shore, a designated swimming area, and boats on the opposite side of the cove.
Entry into the water over the pebbles is generally gradual and easier than from the surrounding quays. There are pebbles and some larger stones in the shallows, so water shoes may be beneficial for children and those sensitive to uneven surfaces. Due to its location deep within the cove, the sea is often calm, but this is not a secluded natural beach. Nearby are moorings, small boats pass by, and ferry and nautical traffic occurs in the wider bay area. Therefore, it is advisable not to stray outside the designated swimming zone.
There is not much natural shade on the main pebbly area. Some shade can be found along the back edge and surrounding greenery, but most of the beach remains in the sun throughout the day. For a longer stay, it is wise to bring your own sunshade. A shower is available at the beach, but other facilities should not be expected in advance: the reliable availability of sunbed rentals, changing cabins, or public toilets directly at the bathing area has not been confirmed.
In the wider area of Rogač, there are restaurants, cafés, a bakery, and services related to the ferry port, but there is no traditional beach bar on the pebbly section itself. For drinks or meals, one must walk towards the central part of the harbour. The tourist board highlights Banje as the main organised beach on this side of the cove, while for the rest of Rogač, swimming is recommended at smaller quays, rocks, and local coastal areas.
Luka Rogač Beach is most suitable for guests staying in the western part of the village and for travellers who wish to swim relatively close to the ferry terminal. Its advantages include asphalt access, calmer waters, a pebbly entry, and a shower, while one should consider the limited space, little natural shade, restricted parking, and proximity to moored boats.
