At the top of the hill rising above Stonsko Polje is the pre-Romanesque church of St. Michael, in which the oldest frescoes of the area are preserved. After the restoration of the church and the fresco, the great cultural value of this building came to light. It is assumed that the church of St Michael was once a court chapel located in the Rector's Palace complex. Today, this church is certainly one of the oldest and most valuable cultural monuments in Ston.
