Pizdica Beach near Komiža

Pizdica is one of those beaches in Komiža that is not visited by chance. It is hidden beneath the steep southern coast of the Komiža bay, far enough from the town to lose the feeling of summer crowds, yet still close enough for a boat trip or a more serious morning walk. There is no pier, houses, or bars by the sea – just a pebble beach, greenery behind it, and clear water that is noticeably cooler in some areas due to underwater springs.

The easiest way to reach it is by boat from Komiža. There is a walking path, but it is not suitable for everyone: the trail is long, the final descent is steep, and after swimming, there is an uphill return. For this reason, Pizdica is best suited for those seeking peace and who are willing to plan their visit more carefully.

What the Beach Looks Like

Pizdica is a natural pebble beach located beneath a high, green slope. The central part of the beach is the most comfortable for entering the water and laying down towels, while the edges are rockier and more interesting for snorkeling. The pebbles are not uniformly small and smooth like those on organized city beaches, so a thicker mat is a good addition for a longer stay.

Entering the water from the middle of the beach is quite simple. The seabed along the shore is pebbly and rocky, and the depth increases gradually. Water shoes are not necessary, but they can be useful due to larger stones and rocky areas along the edges.

The water is usually very clear, and a unique feature of Pizdica is the freshwater springs. While swimming, cooler layers can be felt, especially closer to the shore and at spots where water emerges from underground. In the hottest part of summer, this is a pleasant refreshment, although some may find the water cooler than at other beaches around Komiža.

Shade by the Beach

One of the advantages of Pizdica is the greenery immediately behind the beach. Under the trees and along the edge of the slope, natural shade can be found, especially in the early part of the day. However, shaded spots are limited and quickly occupied when a few boats arrive at the beach.

The majority of the pebble beach remains exposed to the sun, so for a full day stay, it is advisable to bring a hat or umbrella. There is no enclosed space to seek shelter at Pizdica, and returning to the town is not quick, making sun protection more important than at city beaches.

Arrival by Boat from Komiža

It takes just a few minutes to reach Pizdica by boat from the Komiža harbor, and this is by far the most pleasant way to arrive. Local taxi boats often include Pizdica among the secluded beaches in the Komiža bay, but departure and return should be arranged in advance.

There is no port, dock, or organized mooring at the beach. Smaller boats approach the pebble beach, and disembarking depends on sea conditions and the type of vessel. In calm weather, this is not a significant issue, but in rougher waves, disembarking can be tricky, especially for older individuals and small children.

It is best to arrange the return time before disembarking. It is not advisable to assume that boats will continuously pass by the beach or that transportation can easily be found just before evening.

Walking Access

Pizdica can also be reached on foot from Komiža, but this is not a typical walk to the beach. From the center, it takes approximately one hour of walking one way, depending on pace, heat, and trail conditions.

Most of the path leads towards the area above the southern coast, and the last part descends steeply toward the sea. The trail is rocky, occasionally narrow, and may be overgrown, especially outside the main season. The most challenging part is not just the descent but the uphill return after spending several hours in the sun and water.

Closed sports or hiking shoes are required for the journey. Flip-flops are not a good choice, especially on parts with loose stones. In summer, it is best to start early in the morning, bring enough water, and return before dark as the path is not illuminated.

Walking access makes sense for individuals in good physical condition who enjoy quieter trails and do not carry much equipment. For most swimmers, taking a boat is a more practical and comfortable option.

Arrival by Car and Parking

It is not possible to drive directly to the beach. Vehicles can approach the area above Pizdica, but the final descent must always be done on foot.

There is no organized parking at the start of the trail. Any potential spots along the road and dirt paths are very limited and should not be used if they block passage or access to land. Those unfamiliar with the area may find it easier to leave their car in a public parking lot in Komiža and arrange to arrive by boat.

Springs and Old Water Supply Traces

Behind the beach, traces of the former system connected to the Komiža water supply can be noticed. These are part of the site's uniqueness but are not an organized tourist attraction. Abandoned and closed areas should not be entered as they may be slippery, unstable, and dangerous.

Although there are freshwater springs at Pizdica, they should not be relied upon for drinking water. It is necessary to bring your own water for the entire stay, especially if arriving on foot and planning to stay for several hours.

Facilities at the Beach

There are no tourist facilities at the location. There is no beach bar, restaurant, shop, sanitary facilities, showers, or rental of sun loungers and umbrellas.

Everything needed should be brought from Komiža: water, food, sun protection, and enough equipment for the return. There is also no organized waste disposal at the beach, so everything brought must be taken back.

Pizdica is not a place where one can easily go for a cold drink or lunch. For this reason, visitors who seek a few hours of true peace, without music, traffic, and the urban beach atmosphere, tend to stay here.

Is Pizdica Suitable for Children?

The beach itself can be pleasant for families as it has a pebbly entry into the water and some natural shade. However, arriving with children is significantly better by boat. The walking path, steep descent, and later ascent are not practical for small children or for carrying a large amount of equipment.

Older children who are used to walking can come on foot with adults, but only with good footwear and by starting in the cooler part of the day. Strollers are not usable here.

The beach is not accessible for individuals in wheelchairs. Individuals with limited mobility may also find disembarking from a smaller boat onto the natural beach challenging.

Best Time to Visit

For walking access, it is best to start early in the morning while the path is still cool. This way, you can reach the beach before the strongest sun, find a spot in the shade more easily, and have enough time for the return.

If arriving by boat, one can spend almost the entire day at Pizdica, but it is important to monitor the wind and sea conditions. When waves rise in the bay, landing on the shore and later boarding can become uncomfortable.

Pizdica is a suitable choice for those who want to escape from city beaches and do not mind the lack of comfort or facilities. It is most remembered for its tranquility, cooler clear water, and sense of seclusion, even though Komiža is only a few minutes away by boat.
