Pizzeria Charlie in Komiža
Pizzeria Charlie is located on the Komiža waterfront, just a few minutes' walk from the town center and right next to the harbor. It is one of those places that is convenient when you are not looking for a lengthy dinner with fish and multiple courses, but rather pizza, pasta, or something simple after a day at the beach. The terrace is situated in a lively part of the waterfront, so during lunch and dinner, you sit among passersby, boats, and the daily activity of the Komiža harbor.
Charlie has long been a well-known address in Komiža and does not need to pretend to be a modern gourmet restaurant. The menu is quite straightforward: pizzas, pastas, lasagna, salads, and a few other simple dishes. This makes it practical for families, larger groups, or evenings when, after several days of fish and taverns, one desires something familiar and uncomplicated.
Pizza is the Safest Choice
The majority of people come here specifically for the pizza. The selection is broad enough, ranging from simpler options like Margherita to more elaborate combinations with meat, vegetables, and various cheeses.
The portions are designed as standalone meals, so for two people, there is generally no need to order several appetizers before the pizza. If something is desired to share while waiting for the main dish, a salad is more practical than an additional heavy dish.
Charlie is not a place where pizza is attempted to be transformed into fine dining. People come for classic pizza with ample toppings, a good location, and the ability to eat something substantial relatively quickly. This is particularly beneficial in the middle of the season when one does not want to reserve a more serious restaurant every evening.
Not Just a Pizzeria
If someone in the group is not in the mood for pizza, there are other options available. The menu includes pastas and lasagna, and seafood pasta is often chosen when one wants to stay in the Mediterranean direction without ordering a whole fish.
Lasagna is a good choice for a more substantial meal, especially for children or guests who want something simple and familiar. Additionally, various salads can be found, which is practical for a lighter lunch during the warmer part of the day.
Therefore, it makes more sense to view Charlie as an informal restaurant on the waterfront rather than a place where everyone at the table must order pizza.
A Good Choice When Dining with Children
For families, Charlie is practical primarily due to the menu. Pizza, pasta, and lasagna are usually much simpler solutions with children than a restaurant that is almost entirely focused on fish and seafood.
The central location also helps. After dinner, there is no need to get back into the car – you exit directly onto the waterfront, and ice cream, shops, and the rest of Komiža are just a few minutes away.
The terrace is, however, next to a busy promenade and very close to the sea, so small children should be kept in sight. It is possible to reach the restaurant with strollers without a challenging approach or stairs.
Vegetarians Will Not Just Have Salad
When it comes to pizza, it is relatively easy to find several vegetarian combinations, and it is also possible to choose simpler pasta or salad. For this reason, Charlie is quite practical for a group where someone does not eat meat.
For a strictly vegan meal, it is advisable to check the options before ordering. Some pizza combinations can be adjusted, but this is not a restaurant primarily focused on vegan cuisine.
Lunch or Dinner?
Charlie works well for both. It is particularly practical for lunch after a morning swim or return from an excursion since it is located right on the waterfront and does not require a special trip.
During the hottest part of the day, it is more pleasant to choose a table that is better shaded from the sun. In the evening, the atmosphere is entirely different – the waterfront fills up, boats return to the harbor, and the evening stroll through Komiža begins.
For dinner in July and August, it is advisable to arrive a bit earlier if you want an outdoor table. Charlie has a lot of traffic precisely because it is in a very accessible location and does not require a formal dinner or special occasion.
Takeaway Pizza
One of the more practical options is takeaway pizza. This is convenient if you are eating in an apartment, on a boat, or simply do not want to wait for a table during the busiest evening rush.
Takeaway also makes sense before heading to one of the nearby beaches, but pizza is, of course, best eaten while it is still warm. For longer excursions, it is better to take something that can withstand a few hours in a bag.
For larger orders during the evening rush, it is good to keep in mind that preparation may take a bit longer than outside the main season.
Terrace on the Komiža Waterfront
The location is one of Charlie's major assets. You sit right by the waterfront, with a view of the Komiža harbor and the old houses that close off the bay. This means that during dinner, there is plenty to observe, but also that one should expect people passing by the tables.
Those looking for a completely quiet dinner in a hidden garden will not find that atmosphere here. Charlie is quite the opposite – a restaurant in the midst of the life of the town.
The most pleasant time is in the evening when the temperature drops, and the true evening atmosphere of Komiža begins.
Arrival and Parking
If you are staying in Komiža, it is best to reach Pizzeria Charlie on foot. It is only a few minutes from the town center.
It does not make sense to try to drive to the restaurant itself. The streets around the waterfront are narrow, and parking is limited during the summer. It is simpler to leave the vehicle in a public parking area and continue on foot to the restaurant.
For guests arriving by boat, Charlie is particularly convenient as it is located right next to the harbor.
When Charlie Makes the Most Sense
I would choose Charlie when looking for a simple and uncomplicated meal by the waterfront. It is especially suitable after a day at sea, for families with children, larger groups, and anyone who has eaten classic Dalmatian dishes for several days and simply wants pizza or pasta.
For a special dinner with the catch of the day, excess wine, and several courses, there are other taverns in Komiža. Charlie is not in competition with such places nor does it attempt to be. Its advantage lies in the ability to sit by the waterfront, order pizza or pasta, eat without too much ceremony, and continue the evening stroll through Komiža.
