Pol Cimprijanovo Beach in Komiža
Pol Cimprijanovo Beach is located on the northern side of the Komiža harbor, among old stone houses and small beaches that lead towards Gusarica. It is just a few minutes' walk from the central waterfront, but it feels quite different from the larger city beaches. Visitors come here not for beach bars, sun loungers, or all-day programs, but for a quick swim, clear waters, and the unique atmosphere of old Komiža.
This is not a large, wide beach, but rather a pebbly stretch of coastline that has been part of the daily life of the surrounding houses for years. Along the beach, one can see small boats, pull-out areas, and stone thresholds, reminding visitors that this part of the coast is not solely developed for tourists. For this reason, Pol Cimprijanovo has a more local character than many of the more famous bathing spots in Komiža.
Small Pebble Beach by Old Houses
The shore is covered with small to medium-sized pebbles, and in some areas, rocks and larger flat stones emerge along the water's edge. The most comfortable spot for a towel is usually found in the central part of the beach, while space is left along the edges for boats and access to the houses.
The beach is not particularly wide, so the feeling of space changes significantly depending on the number of people present. In the morning and outside the main season, it often feels almost private, while during July and August, it can fill up quickly. However, large groups or visitors with a lot of equipment typically do not come here; rather, it attracts people staying in the nearby streets who want to swim without going to a larger beach.
There are no organized sunbathing terraces or leveled areas on the beach. For longer lounging, a thicker mat is advisable, and one should choose a spot that does not obstruct access for boats and houses along the coast.
Entry into the Sea
The easiest access to the sea is over the pebbly part of the beach. Along the shore, there are pebbles, stones, and occasionally larger flat rocks, so water shoes can be useful for sensitive swimmers and children.
The water is shallow near the beach, but the bottom is not completely flat everywhere. In some places, larger stone slabs are located just beneath the surface, so it is best to enter slowly and first check where to step. When the sea is calm, the water is very clear, and the rocky bottom can be easily seen from the shore.
Pol Cimprijanovo is suitable for short morning or evening swims. For longer swimming sessions, attention should be paid to small boats and vessels entering the Komiža harbor. It is safest to stay closer to the shore and not swim towards the navigable part of the harbor.
Sun and Shade
There are no trees or reliable natural shade directly on the beach. Part of the beach may fall into the shadow of the surrounding houses during the day, but this cannot be relied upon for all-day sun protection.
The most pleasant time to visit is early in the morning when the beach is calm and the sun is not yet strong. In the later hours, the open part of the coast remains exposed to the sun, so for a longer stay, it is advisable to bring your own sun protection. Due to the limited space, a large umbrella is not always practical, especially when the beach is busier.
In the evening, visitors come here for one last swim before dinner or a stroll along the waterfront. At that time, the old stone facades, boats, and the view across the Komiža harbor create one of the more beautiful, unobtrusive scenes in this part of the town.
How to Get from the Center of Komiža
From the central waterfront, head north through the old part of Komiža and the narrow streets leading to Gusarica. Pol Cimprijanovo is located before the large Gusarica beach, between the smaller Komiža beaches Bjažićovo and Žanićovo.
It takes approximately five to ten minutes of easy walking from the waterfront, depending on your starting point and the chosen street. The final approach leads through the residential part of the town, via narrow passages and steps down to the sea. There is no long descent or challenging path, but access is not completely flat everywhere.
The beach can be easily reached in regular summer footwear. Due to the steps and narrow passages, it is not practical for strollers or individuals using wheelchairs.
Arriving by Car and Parking
It is not possible to drive directly to the beach. The old part of Komiža is intersected by narrow streets, and the area near the beach is reserved for pedestrians, local houses, and smaller boats.
It is best to leave your vehicle in one of the public parking areas in Komiža and continue on foot to the beach. Do not attempt to drive down the narrow streets above the coast, as there is no room for safe turning or parking.
Pol Cimprijanovo is therefore most practical for swimmers staying in Komiža itself. For visitors arriving by car solely for swimming, Gusarica is a simpler option, although even there, it is not always easy to find a free spot nearby during the main season.
Facilities at the Beach
There are no tourist facilities at this location. There are no showers, restrooms, changing cabins, sunbed rentals, or organized offerings directly on the beach.
The advantage is that the beach is located within the settlement. Restaurants, cafes, and shops in the center of Komiža can be reached in a few minutes, and additional dining options can be found towards Gusarica. Therefore, it is not necessary to bring large supplies of food and water as one would for more remote beaches outside the town.
There is not much space along the shore for leaving belongings, so it is best to bring only a towel, water, and basic swimming gear. Since the beach is next to old houses and an area used by local residents, it is especially important not to block passages and not to leave waste.
Is the Beach Suitable for Children?
Pol Cimprijanovo can be a pleasant place for swimming with children who can walk safely on the pebbles and are accustomed to rocky bottoms. The beach is small, and entry into the sea through the central part is relatively easy.
However, there are no children's facilities, wide shallow areas, or natural shade. There are boats and equipment related to their use along the shore, so children should be supervised. For families wishing to spend a larger part of the day at the beach, with more space and facilities nearby, Gusarica is a more practical choice.
It is difficult to bring strollers to the beach due to the narrow passages and steps. The beach is not accessible for individuals with reduced mobility.
Who is Pol Cimprijanovo Most Suitable For?
This beach is most suitable for those staying in the old part of Komiža who want to swim without going to a more distant bathing area. It is good for morning swims, a quick refresh during the day, or a last swim in the evening.
It is not the best choice for visitors looking for plenty of shade, all-day beach accommodation, equipment rentals, and organized activities. Its value lies in the fact that it remains a simple Komiža beach – right next to houses and boats, with clear water and a view across the harbor.
Pol Cimprijanovo may not be a beach for which a whole day is specifically planned, but it easily becomes a place to return to every morning when staying in this part of Komiža.
