BASIC INFORMATION AND LOCATION

Primosten is a small town and municipality on the Adriatic coast, located between Šibenik and Trogir. It is 28 kilometers from Šibenik, and is located on a small island not far from the mainland, which in 1542, during the time of danger from the Turks, was protected by ramparts and a drawbridge. Over time, the drawbridge was replaced by a causeway, and Primošten became a peninsula that, together with the Raduča peninsula, forms a single natural entity. Primošten can be reached via Zadar and Split airports, the D8 state road, or the A1 motorway.

CULTURE, HISTORY AND ATTRACTIONS

Stone houses, churches and narrow alleys are a perfect harmony of the past and the present. In the Primošten region, there are known traces of early Illyrian, Greek and Croatian settlement. In the Middle Ages, the region was known as Parathelesije, and in more recent times, until the end of the 19th century, as Bosiljine. From Bosiljine, the Primošten and Rogoznica regions were formed. In old documents, it is mentioned under the name Caput Cista (Bare Head), while it was first mentioned under its current name in 1564. The population, almost 3,000, is mainly engaged in tourism, viticulture and fishing. In addition to its vineyards, Primošten is known for its traditional donkey race which is organized every summer. Its symbol is the 17.5-meter-high statue of Our Lady of Loreto. Primošten also won the prestigious Golden Flower of Europe award in 2007, for its horticultural and urban development.

BEACHES

Numerous pebble beaches offer a vacation for the soul. These are Dagna, Lokvica, Mala and Velika Raduča, Marina, Lučica, Porat, Sv. Juraj and the beach of the Adriatic camp. A special gift of nature are the seven small islands around Primošten.
