Konoba Nevera – Fresh Fish from Own Nets on the Stomorska Waterfront
Konoba Nevera is located by the sea on the eastern side of Stomorska Bay, on Riva Pelegrin. It is just a few minutes' walk along the coast from the center of the village and the main part of the marina. The terrace faces the harbor and the western side of the settlement, allowing diners to sit almost next to the moored boats, with a view of the entire bay.
Nevera is a family-run konoba whose offerings are primarily based on fresh fish and seafood. A significant portion of the fish comes from the nets of the Novaković family, who have passed down their fishing tradition through generations. Depending on the catch, the fish served may have been caught that very morning, which naturally changes the daily menu.
Upon arrival, it is best to ask which fish is available that day. The selection depends on the season, weather, and catch, so it is not practical to expect the same types of fish at all times. Fish is usually prepared simply, grilled, to preserve its natural flavor, and is served with Swiss chard and potatoes, vegetables, or another classic Dalmatian side dish.
When ordering whole fish, it is advisable to check its weight and price before preparation, as fresh fish is generally priced by the kilogram. For two people, the staff can recommend an appropriate size and preparation method, which is more practical than choosing solely based on the type of fish.
One of the signature dishes at Nevera is the fish soup made from fresh fish from its own catch. The menu also features sardines, black cuttlefish risotto, seafood risotto, shellfish, octopus, squid, and other dishes whose availability depends on daily supplies.
The ingredients do not come solely from the sea. The konoba also uses vegetables from its own family field, so some sides and seasonal dishes rely on what is available at that time. This approach is best reflected in simple combinations of fish, olive oil, vegetables, and herbs, without unnecessarily complicated additions.
The menu includes meat dishes, which is useful when not everyone in a group wants to eat fish. However, the offerings remain primarily Mediterranean and fish-based, so it is most worthwhile to visit Nevera for the daily catch, fish soup, shellfish, or risotto, rather than for pizza or a wide selection of international dishes.
Vegetarians can find a few sides, salads, and vegetable dishes, but the selection is not as extensive as in a restaurant specifically focused on vegetarian cuisine. Special dietary needs are best mentioned before ordering so that the staff can explain what can be adjusted that day.
Alongside food, Croatian wines, beer, soft drinks, and coffee are offered. A specialty of the house is homemade liqueurs, including herbal liqueur and juniper liqueur. Their availability may vary, but it is worth asking what is currently on offer, especially after dinner.
The terrace is furnished and covered, providing protection from the strong summer sun. It is open to the harbor, allowing for a view of the sea and airflow, while transparent side walls can offer additional protection when the wind picks up. The space is tidier and more modern than in a traditional old konoba, but the menu remains firmly connected to local fishing.
During the day, it is possible to come for lunch, while in the evening the atmosphere is livelier as the restaurants along the waterfront fill up and boats return to the harbor. For a table closest to the sea in July and August, reservations are recommended, especially for larger groups or during peak dinner times.
The konoba is suitable for families, and high chairs are available. Due to its location right by the waterfront, parents should keep an eye on small children as the sea, moorings, and pedestrian pathways are nearby. Access to the terrace is generally without major obstacles, and the establishment is also listed as accessible for wheelchair users, although the availability of an appropriate table should be confirmed when making a reservation.
The easiest way to reach Nevera from the center of Stomorska is on foot. From the main waterfront, follow the coast to the eastern side of the bay. The walk is short, almost flat, and passes by boats and stone houses, so a car is not necessary.
The konoba is very practical for sailors. It can be reached from the guest moorings in the harbor in just a few minutes without needing a taxi or other transport. Due to its location by the harbor, Nevera is a good choice for crews who want to dine on fresh fish after mooring and then return to their boat on foot.
Arriving by car is possible via the road leading down to Stomorska, but parking near the konoba is very limited. The waterfront is narrow, and there is no large separate parking area for restaurant guests. It is best to leave the car in a permitted spot above or before the narrowest part of the settlement and continue on foot to the konoba.
Nevera operates seasonally. According to the currently published schedule, it is open from noon until midnight, with Monday as a day off, but the working hours may change during the pre-season and post-season. It is advisable to check before visiting outside the main summer months.
Konoba Nevera differs from other restaurants in Stomorska primarily due to the direct connection between family fishing and the kitchen. Here, it is most important to ask what has been caught that day, listen to recommendations, and choose a simply prepared dish. The best experience is not necessarily the most complicated dish, but fresh fish from the grill, a seasonal side, a glass of wine, and a view of Stomorska harbor.
