Milna's Heart of Summer | A Summer Filled with Tradition, Music, and Island Events

Milna's Heart of Summer is the central summer events programme in Milna, transforming the town into one of the liveliest cultural and entertainment hubs on Brač from June to September each year. The event encompasses concerts, traditional fairs, sports competitions, gastronomic evenings, children's programmes, and cultural activities, bringing together locals, sailors, and visitors from across Croatia and abroad.

The name of the event is not coincidental. Milna's Heart of Summer symbolises a place where tradition, maritime heritage, and contemporary tourist life converge during the summer months. The programme is not limited to Milna alone; it also includes Ložišća, Bobovišća, and other settlements within the Municipality of Milna, turning the entire area into a large open-air stage throughout the summer.

Each year, the programme features over sixty different events. Among the most notable are the traditional Fair of Our Lady of Mount Carmel on 16th July, Mrduja Fest, the legendary Tug of War between Brač and Šolta, the Kalaton sports race through the stone alleys of Milna, as well as numerous fishing evenings, klapa performances, and concerts by well-known Croatian artists.

Gastronomic events hold a special place, promoting island cuisine and local products. Visitors have the opportunity to taste traditional Brač delicacies such as Hrapoćuša, Brač cake, and Milna cake, alongside various local specialities prepared according to old island recipes.

The musical aspect of the programme is equally significant. Throughout the summer, Milna hosts klapa groups, local musicians, and prominent names from the Croatian music scene. Concerts are typically held on the waterfront or in squares by the sea, creating a unique Mediterranean atmosphere that has made the event well-known.

For sports enthusiasts, there are five-a-side football tournaments, sailing events, recreational races, and other activities that further enrich the summer programme. The most famous among these is Kalaton, a race through the narrow stone streets of Milna that has attracted an increasing number of competitors and spectators in recent years.

What sets Milna's Heart of Summer apart from many other summer events on the Adriatic is that it is not just a single event but a programme that lasts the entire summer. Almost every week brings a new event, allowing visitors to experience a different side of Milna throughout the season – from traditional folk festivals and maritime customs to modern concerts and cultural programmes.

For many guests, Milna's Heart of Summer is the best way to get to know the town. Through music, gastronomy, sport, and local customs, the authentic character of Milna, one of the most renowned maritime places on the island of Brač, is revealed.
