Pirate Night in Pučišća

Imagine a warm summer evening in Pučišća, where the air is filled with excitement and the scent of the sea. This is the setting for Pirate Night, one of the most captivating summer events on Brač, inspired by the real-life raids of the Omis pirates during the Middle Ages. Typically held in mid-August, just before the Feast of the Assumption, this event is a highlight of the Pučišća Cultural Summer.

As dusk falls, the entire town transforms into a vibrant historical stage. A pirate ship sails into the harbour, accompanied by the rhythmic beats of drums and the lively sounds of the BrassČuta orchestra. The dramatic reenactment of the Omis pirates' attack unfolds, with streets illuminated by torches and the public lights dimmed, creating an immersive atmosphere. Locals and visitors alike gather to witness the thrilling battles, complete with gunfire, fire displays, and archery skirmishes, all in a bid to defend the town.

The event is enriched by the participation of local residents, who take to their boats to join the pirate ship, sharing tales of Pučišća's historical defences, once known as “Luka kula.” This charming village once boasted 13 defensive towers, built to protect against marauding pirates and invaders, making the event a poignant reminder of its storied past.

Featuring the Omis pirates, the Knights of Prince Brečko, and numerous locals, the night culminates in a truce, leading to a lively celebration filled with music and entertainment that often lasts until midnight. Visitors rave about the fantastic atmosphere, the fiery spectacles, and the authentic charm of the stone waterfront, feeling as though they've stepped back in time.

This event is a firm favourite among families and tourists alike, seamlessly blending history, outdoor theatre, music, and local tradition into a unique evening experience. Entry is generally free, but with the event drawing large crowds, arriving early is advisable to secure a prime spot along the waterfront where the main action unfolds.
