Pirate Night in Pučišća

Pirate Night stands out as one of the most captivating summer events in Pučišća, drawing inspiration from the historical raids of the Omiš pirates on Brač during the Middle Ages. Typically held in mid-August, this vibrant celebration coincides with the Feast of the Assumption, forming part of the cultural summer festivities in Pučišća.

The entire town transforms into a grand historical stage for this occasion. As night falls, a pirate ship sails into the harbor, accompanied by the rhythmic beats of drums, fanfare, and the BrassČuta wind orchestra, marking the beginning of the reenactment of the Omiš pirates' attack on Pučišća. Streets are illuminated by torches, public lights are dimmed, and both locals and visitors witness a dramatic portrayal of battles, gunfire, fiery displays, archery skirmishes, and the defense of the town.

The event's unique atmosphere is enhanced by the participation of local residents, boats setting sail towards the pirate ship, and historical narratives about the defense of Pučišća, also known as “Luka kula.” Historically, the area was protected by 13 defensive towers designed to fend off pirates and invaders, establishing a strong connection between the event and local heritage.

Featuring the Omiš pirates, the Knights of Prince Brečko, and numerous locals, the program culminates in a ceasefire followed by a festive evening filled with concerts that often last until midnight. Attendees frequently highlight the vibrant atmosphere, spectacular fire effects, the authentic ambiance of the stone waterfront, and the feeling of being transported back several centuries.

This event is particularly popular among families and tourists, as it seamlessly blends history, outdoor theater, music, and local traditions into a unique evening experience. Admission is generally free, but due to the high turnout, arriving early is advisable to secure a good spot along the waterfront and harbor where the main activities take place.
