Kamenjara Beach, Vrboska – a wild rocky coastline for swimming and underwater exploration

Kamenjara Beach is located on the Glavica peninsula, east of Vrboska, close to Solina. Unlike the more developed beaches in the area, Kamenjara is not a typical pebbly cove but rather a long stretch of natural stone slabs, rocks, and flat stone terraces along the open sea.

This is a spot for visitors seeking tranquillity, space for sunbathing on the rocks, and very clean water. There is no central part of the beach with imported pebbles, and entry into the sea is primarily over natural rocks.

What is the coastline like?

The coastline at Kamenjara is almost entirely rocky and stony.

Large flat stone slabs in several places provide ample space for towels and sunbathing, while natural crevices between them allow access to the sea.

One should not expect soft pebbles or sand along the shore. Kamenjara is a true natural rocky beach, which gives it a unique character but makes it less suitable for small children and those who require a very easy entry into the water.

What is the seabed like?

The seabed near Kamenjara is also predominantly rocky and stony.

In certain areas, the depth increases relatively quickly, especially along the more open parts of the coastline. Due to the underwater rocks and uneven entry, water shoes are recommended.

The water is very clear, allowing for good visibility of the rocks and marine life even from the surface.

An excellent spot for underwater exploration

Kamenjara is one of the more interesting locations around Vrboska for snorkelling.

The rocky seabed, steep transitions to deeper water, and numerous stone crevices create a more diverse underwater landscape than that found at flat sandy beaches.

For more experienced swimmers, this is one of Kamenjara's greatest advantages.

The sea can be choppier

Kamenjara is more exposed to the open sea than the sheltered coves on the inner side of the Glavica peninsula.

When stronger winds blow, particularly the bora, the sea can become noticeably choppy, making entry from the rocks more challenging. In such conditions, the calmer coves around Vrboska may be a safer choice.

In calm weather, the more open position provides Kamenjara with exceptionally clear water and beautiful views towards Brač and the mainland.

Is there shade?

Kamenjara is mostly open and exposed to the sun.

Although there is a pine forest behind part of the coastline and some natural shade can be found in certain areas, one should not expect the main parts along the shore to be shaded throughout the day.

For longer stays in summer, it is advisable to bring your own sun protection.

FKK and naturism

Kamenjara is also known as a spot frequented by naturists.

This is not a strictly organised nudist beach with specific infrastructure, but naturism is common in this part of the peninsula and should be expected.

If this environment is not to your liking, nearby Solina offers a more conventional swimming option.

How to get to Kamenjara?

The easiest way to reach Kamenjara is via the Solina beach area.

A walking path leads from Solina to Kamenjara along the coast and through the pine forest. Depending on which part of Kamenjara you wish to visit, expect a short walk of a few minutes.

The approach to some rocks may be uneven, so trainers or sturdier sandals are more practical than completely flat flip-flops.

Parking

There is no designated public parking directly at Kamenjara.

The most practical option is to leave your car at the parking area near Solina and continue on foot. The parking at Solina is organised and located very close to the start of the path to Kamenjara.

The parking regime and fees may change during the season, so it is best to check upon arrival.

Are there facilities?

At Kamenjara itself, one should not expect typical infrastructure.

There is no beach bar, restaurant, toilet facilities, or organised sunbed rentals. Amenities can be found in the Solina area, from where it is quick to return to Kamenjara on foot.

Therefore, for a longer stay, it is advisable to bring water, food, and everything needed for sunbathing.

Who is Kamenjara best suited for?

Kamenjara is ideal for guests who enjoy rocky coastlines, clear and deeper waters, peace, and a natural environment without typical tourist infrastructure.

It is less suitable for small children, non-swimmers, and those who require very easy access to the water.

If you enjoy lounging on flat stone slabs, snorkelling, and swimming at a natural, less developed beach, Kamenjara is one of the more interesting choices near Vrboska.
