Maslinica Beach, Vrboska – a Wild Rocky Cove with Pines and Crystal-Clear Waters

Maslinica Beach is located to the north of Vrboska, in a natural cove surrounded by pine forest and rocky slopes. It is not a typical well-maintained beach with a flat pebble shore, but rather a wild rocky cove with several smaller spots suitable for entering the water and sunbathing.

This natural character is the greatest asset of Maslinica. There are no beach bars, music, rows of sun loungers, or other tourist infrastructure. Visitors come for the clear waters, shade among the pines, and the feeling of being away from settlements, even though Vrboska is not far away.

What is the coastline like?

The majority of Maslinica consists of natural limestone rocks, stone slabs, and rocky edges that descend into the sea.

In the inner part of the cove, there is a smaller area with finer stones and pebbles, which makes entering the water easier, but it is not a large pebble beach. Rocks dominate the entire landscape.

In certain places, the rocks form relatively flat surfaces suitable for a towel and sunbathing, while reaching the more secluded parts requires crossing uneven rocky terrain.

What is the seabed like?

The seabed is not entirely uniform.

In the central and calmer part of the cove, sand and finer sediment can be found, but closer to the shore and along the sides, there is a lot of stone and rock.

Therefore, Maslinica should not be described as a beach with a completely sandy bottom. It is more accurate to say that sandy areas alternate with rocks and stones.

The water is exceptionally clear, allowing the structure of the seabed to be seen well from the shore.

Entering the water

The easiest access is through a smaller entry point in the central part of the cove.

In other places, entry is directly from the rocks, which requires more caution. Water shoes are very useful here, not only because of the stones underwater but also for moving along the shore.

For small children and those with limited mobility, Maslinica is not among the most practical beaches in the vicinity of Vrboska.

Shade among the pines

One of the greatest advantages of Maslinica is the natural shade.

The pine forest descends down the slopes around the cove, and in several places, it is possible to find shade between the trees. It is particularly pleasant to retreat from the rocks into the shade during the hottest part of the day.

However, the best shaded spots are not directly at the water's edge, and some require crossing uneven terrain.

Peace and natural ambience

Maslinica is a good choice for those consciously seeking a wild beach without facilities.

There are no catering establishments, music, or large developed areas. Even in summer, it can feel significantly quieter than Soline and the beaches closer to the centre of Vrboska.

The main attractions are the silence, crystal-clear water, and the opportunity to find your own spot among the rocks and pines.

Snorkelling

Maslinica is very good for snorkelling.

The rocky sides of the cove, transitions between rocky and sandy bottoms, and very clear water make the underwater scenery more interesting than on a completely uniform beach.

At the edges of the cove, the sea deepens more quickly, while the central part is more suitable for relaxed swimming.

How to get to Maslinica?

The cove can be reached on foot, by bicycle, by car, or by boat.

It is approximately one kilometre north of the centre of Vrboska. The path is relatively straightforward, but the last part of the access to the best swimming spots leads through natural and rocky terrain.

For guests staying in Vrboska, walking or cycling is often more pleasant than driving.

Parking

Maslinica does not have a large asphalted car park right by the shore.

You can get relatively close to the cove by car and leave your vehicle in a simple unpaved area before the final walking part.

Do not expect marked spaces, a ramp, payment, or organised parking infrastructure. During July and August, the number of available spaces may be limited.

Are there any facilities?

There are no beach bars, restaurants, public toilets, showers, or organised rentals of sun loungers and umbrellas at Maslinica.

Water, food, and all necessities for your stay should be brought with you.

The absence of these facilities is the main reason why the cove still feels wild and natural.

Who is Maslinica best suited for?

Maslinica is best suited for guests who enjoy rocks, peace, natural shade, and exceptionally clear water.

It is less suitable if you are looking for easy access to the water, a large flat area for lying down, facilities, or a beach suitable for small children.

If experiencing a natural Hvar cove is more important to you than the comfort of a developed beach, Maslinica is one of the more interesting choices in the vicinity of Vrboska.
